Just got the Captivate yesterday, changed over from the iPhone 3G. So far, I am extremely impressed! I have never had or even used an Android phone before so I was a little nervous. I am not a very technical guy so I will not be rooting or unlocking or anything like that (truthfully I dont even really understand what those things mean). I am just a regular user and wanted to give my recommendation from that perspective.

The user interface is unbelievably smooth and easy to use. I have installed all of the apps I had on my iphone so no complaints there. Overall, to anyone out there who is not very technical and uses their phone for everyday use/internet/email this is a fantastic alternative to the iPhone!

So if you are worried about making the switch (like I was), don't be, you wont regret it!

I hadn't had a new phone in 3 years so this was a pretty big decision for me. (I had a blackjack, then I used a G1 for a little bit so I guess I had a new phone for 2 years now) But I really had a hard time choosing between an iPhone 4 and one of the store workers was unbelievably pushy on the iPhone. The other guy was nice enough to help me instead and he said its your choice, and explained the benefits to both. I played with the iPhone 4 a bit was very bored after those 10 minutes. So I got this and am super happy to! :)

I am right there with. I have owned every iPhone since the 2g phone. I purchased a iPhone 4 and after 3 weeks took it back due to its main problems and to be honest other then the screen it was just another iPhone. And picked a captivate up, This phone is great. I had an HTC Incrediable for awhile and took it back due to lack of great service. This phone is right on par with the incrediable.

Hey, just FYI: I'm new here, haha.

Anyway, I exchanged my iPhone 4 for this phone. The iPhone 4 was a legitimately good phone, but I'm in the camp that believes the iPhone and Android phones are good and that it's ultimately a matter of preference for those who want to try and decide between them.

That said, I wasn't sure if I had made the right decision for a while, but after having the phone for a few days and customizing it better to my tastes, I can say that I really like this phone.

I've installed LauncherPro Beta and Fancy widgets and that alone has made things a ton better. Swype is really cool too! Also, this goes without saying, but SNESoid is AMAZING. It takes me back to my childhood, haha.

All in all, great phone. I just hope Samsung/AT&T don't let us down with the 2.2 Froyo update, or else I will most definitely be regretting this switch. Android 2.1 isn't bad, but considering the enhancements that 2.2 should offer, I'll be very upset if those don't make it. Good thing is that Samsung has apparently promised Froyo to all Galaxy S phones (and variants), so I'm not overly concerned right now.

But yeah, the phone is fast (even faster with LauncherPro) and it will be even faster with Froyo, so no real complaints there. My only problem I've had was with the first Captivate I got where the home/back touch buttons at the bottom had minds of their own and would randomly activate without being touched and so I'd be interrupted from time to time while doing something. That said though, I got another Captivate and there have been no issues otherwise.

I do hope that Samsung offers better support for Windows 7 64-bit soon though.

Weird, I had about the opposite story of that. I mean granted I walked in when the Samsung representative was there setting up the demo unit and she let me mess around with her phone of it, but still. Actually, the guy who sold it to me was talking about how he was sold on the iPhone 4, then when he played around with the captivate was pretty much sold on it instead.

i have had iphone 3g and the droids from verizon, samsung captivate has much better build quality, feel, screen and signal holds, than those phones, it really is an under dog and hasn't gotten much press, but having owned those phones the captivate is the most beautiful sturdy and best overall phone period.
