Now that I have rooted my 2.1....

I finally got my phone to root thanks to the new thread from surgeon

im a rookie at this stuff, so whats the coolest ways to enjoy the phone now?

ive heard u can transfer apps 2 your sd card so it wont take up phone space...

what else????

Well, you can overclock to make your phone a little snappier. You can do wi-fi tethering to turn your phone into a wi-fi hotspot. You can download and install root-only apps. You can remove apps on the phone you don't want or consider bloatware.

Use caution: with great power comes great responsibility (or in this case, the power to really muck-up your phone :D:)). Lots and lots of threads about all of the above... Enjoy!

P.S., I also suggest this thread: http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-eris/116574-root-best-practices.html

ok thanks sounds good

so what exactly is overclock? sorry im dumb lol

I'm tempted to send you to a real detailed, techincal thread about it...but, nah! :)

Its pretty-much just making your phone run faster that it was intended. The stock clock speed for the Eris is 528MHz...you can make it run at a higher clock speed (i.e., more cycles per second = more processing faster). Mine runs at a pretty safe 710MHz and I'm very happy with the performance.

It really works! If you do it right, you can actually save battery life by underclocking when the phone is idle and just overclock when you are actually using it. If you do it wrong, you can use up a lot of battery very fast and/or fry your phone .
