Enlighten me on your Sense Views

I have no idea why all of you hate sense.

Two HUGE things:
1. It blocks wiimote controllers from connecting through bluetooth, killing emulator experiences.
2. For anyone who doesn't want to ruin their warranty rooting, it makes you bend over for the cell phone manufacturers. They take forever to get you an OTA update and they can easily just not update a phone to force you into buying a new one.

These reasons alone make Sense a terrible terrible joke...

I think sense was a pretty good back when 1.5 cupcake was out. It added a lot of functionality that android was missing, and helped phones be more business oriented. But after eclair and now froyo sense has lost alot of the edge that it once had. The one feature that was always interesting to me was the fact that you could program 3 different layouts of the screens to switch between. So you could have a setup for work, then one for after work. It seems pretty convenient. But thats it, Sense has become nothing more then a collection of widgets. Even that leap feature that all the reviewers liked seemed gimmicky to me.

I have to agree with previous comments that sense or any custom UI holds up the update process. If HTC was smart and you can lump Motorola and Samsung in here as well with blur and touchwiz, they would sell there ui as home replacements on the android market. Especially now with gingerbread promising a better UI experience the need for sense and other custom UIs will diminish. But selling it on the market as a home replacements would give consumers the option to use something like sense. Which is geared towards more the business folk. While blur is suited for the social network junkies. My .02

Sense ROMs have very few themes for them. That's one strike.

Launcher Pro/ADW Launcher provides more functionality through app dock and hide icon labels. ADW even has nifty gestures. In Sense, you're stuck with that ugly bottom tab. Neither launcher takes up as much memory or internal storage as Sense. Strike two.

Many widgets, like Pure Calendar and Beautiful Widgets, easily replace the Sense equivalent and are skinnable to boot. Froyo's improved camera app and the upcoming CM6 addition make Sense's more or less obsolete, too. Strike three, I'm out. And this is coming from someone who used to follow the Desire ROM for the N1 religiously.

I just hate the overhead of running the Sense UI (this applies to MotoBlur as well).

The framework is clunky and over done and eats too much of the resources to make it worth while. Even with the performance gains with Froyo, seeing an N1 with Sense on it, you can tell it's carrying a heavy load in the way it performs.

You can get Widgets and other things that replace pretty much anything Sense does without having to flash a Sense ROM.

Also, Sense ROM's have been plagued with issues with Wifi, Bluetooth and Camera. Some are pretty much working, but there are always those issues.

Now, on the plus side, it is pretty. :)

Well if there are widgets like HTC sense I'm looking for a decent friend stream mimicer. One that updates Twitter and Facebook at once and is scrollable with...eh ADW launcher is what I use. Pure widget just doesn't do the trick anymore.

AND NOTE i do not mean Sense on the Nexus one. I just mean sense IN general. Like say...the incredible?

Sense is just a bunch of crap over the Vanilla Android. What does it do... slows down phones, eats additional battery, hoggs resources, creates 6-12month gaps between new versions.

Anyway the concept is ok, custom look etc. but you don't need to put so much crap into it. Contribute the Android project as a whole not just for yourself. I know HTC wants to be unique.. but really what it does is create more expenses for themself. I mean who needs HTC widgets when we allready have them on the market. Who needs the UI makeover.. vanilla works great.

There are some nice things that developers like ADW Launcher is gathering up from Sense, Touchwiz and Moto Blur... but they do it in an open way.. the open source way.

With 3.0 Android google will redo the whole UI.. what will HTC, Motorola and Samsung come up with then?... another way to crap all over the UI.

We all know that custom UIs are buggy, Sense is the best of them, with samsung being the worst piece of crap ever...

That's why I don't like anything over my Vanilla... except the ADW Launcher.. simple is always the best
