Any way to maximize battery life? (Please help!)

I have been having some battery issues on my Captivate and can only seem to get thru 12 or so hours with minimal use and it is quite bothersome. The main reason I bought the phone was because of its battery life and so far, I am disappointed. For instance, I charged my phone all night, woke up and made a less than one minute phone call, looked at my status and I was at 96%. As the day went on with minimal use, it seems to drain without me even touching it. As of now (13 hours later), my battery icon is blue and showing halfway full, but the battery status says 36% which does not add up to me. I also don't have a live wallpaper and have Advanced Task Manager that kills all apps as well as GPS and Wifi turned off.

Any tips? Should I take it back and get a new one or see if I can get a new battery? Thanks in advance.

I recently downloaded "Juicedefender" off the market, it helps a good amount. It basically turns off 3g when your phone screen is off, it can also turn your wifi off and on. I think it also does a few more things in the background. It's also nice because while your screen is off it turns on 3g for 1 minute every 15 minutes to sync all your stuff if it needs to be synced. It's free and it seems to work decent. Hope I helped a little.

I think how the battery meter works is like this: Once you reach 74% the meter will deplete 1/4, once you reach 49% it will deplete half (still blue), once you reach 24% it will deplete to 3/4 empty. So you can have 51% left and have the meter display 3/4 full (blue) and have 27% and have the meter display half full/empty (blue).

I'm hoping someone can chime in on this. This is great if true.

While different platforms and phones.. whenever I flashed a new ROM on my Tilt2 it would take two or three days before the full potential of the battery would come back.

First Charge like 8 hours
Second Charge over 12 hours
Third charge i could go over a day with medium use

I would assume the same of these phones too. I have noticed my Captivates battery life getting stronger and stronger each day now

The quickest way I have found to make my battery read accurately is to Charge to 100% let drain till the phone shuts off. Do this 2 or 3 times (No mini charges in between) and it should last alot longer. Did this for both my Captivate and my Droid X and I get atleast 2 days of use out of both of them.

I agree with most posters as I complained on a post after the first night about the battery drain. 1. I have noticed the battery is becoming much stronger on day 4 after being drained a couple time. 2. I have the Task Killer free app and scan that every so often and kill the open apps. 3. Others recommended to me when done with an App always use the back button than the home button. 4. I used the sticky's to root and be able to side load my phone, but to me just as important got rid of a lot of the AT&T bloatware. This all seems to help. As always, watch wifi and bluetooth.

I have to say this is one of the areas where I'm not impressed with the phone. For instance, today is my day off, so I woke up (on instinct) at 8am, unplugged the phone, responded to a text, then decided to sleep in. I woke up two hours later to find that my battery was already at 90%. I know I get low signal at home, my bars are always hovering around 2-3, so I'm going to blame that on searching for 3G. But I'm usually lucky if I get a full days charge out of the phone, and I've had it for a week so it's bound to be past that "break in" period. I even did the drain then full charge then drain then full charge deal with no change in drainage patterns. :/

Ok, for Juicedefender I am a bit confused. I put these settings
Schedule: Leave Data Enabled
Battery: Keep Data Disabled while below 15%
Traffic: Leave Data Enabled while >500kb/15s
Screen: Leave Data enabled while screen is unlocked.

I dont quite get Traffic. Any help?

I would assume that it would leave data on while there is traffic coming over your phone even if the screen is off...such as, if you were streaming music, you wouldnt want juice defender turning your data off even if the screen timed out.

Close, but the battery guage in the notification bar is divided into 5 pieces.

It shows full until you hit 80%
4 "bars" until you hit 60%
3 "bars" until you hit 40%
2 'bars" until u hit 20%
...
