Root Android 2.2 ROMs

For anyone out there running KaosFroyo 23, can you please confirm the correct operation of one or more of the following? In particular, has anyone tried Bluetooth voice dialing?

Thanks!

-----------------

Important:

  • Apps2SD
  • Bluetooth voice dialing

Less important (performance improvements):

  • JIT (Dalvik)
  • Javascript("V8")

Other stuff that I need to continue to work (works in 2.1):

  • Bluetooth speakerphone
  • Google Maps & GPS
  • PDANet (or Wifi tethering)
  • Wifi
  • Over-the-air data
  • Making phone calls :)
  • Swype

you also have CELB Froyo ...I have used CELB Froyo and Kaos Froyo, both developers are hard at work ....I would expect that they will have all the bugs out before long .... currently I am not using a Froyo or CM based rom .....but thats just cuz I like to change it up everyonce in awhile ....

check XDA to stay up to date on these roms

-----------------

Important:

  • Apps2SD - haven't tried it
  • Bluetooth voice dialing - haven't tried it

Less important (performance improvements):

  • JIT (Dalvik) - yes
  • Javascript("V8") - dunno

Other stuff that I need to continue to work (works in 2.1):

  • Bluetooth speakerphone - haven't tried
  • Google Maps & GPS - yep
  • PDANet (or Wifi tethering) - stock wifi tethering is no go. Not sure about other solutions
  • Wifi - haven't tried, but haven't heard of any problems.
  • Over-the-air data - of course
  • Making phone calls :) - for sure
  • Swype - haven't tried it

I edited my personal experience in there ^

I'm currently running kaos v23 on my eris and apps2sd technically does NOT work....HOWEVER there is a reason for this. IT IS NOT NEEDED....2.2 aka froyo handles the moving of apps to your sd provided your sd card is formatted with 1. no partitions and 2. fat32. This is, as far as I have seen, true with ANY froyo rom. As a matter of fact I've seen posts where peoples sd cards wont even be seen with a froyo rom if they have the apps2sd partition setup on them. JIT does work, javascript not sure, bluetooth not sure. Google maps/gps atleast for me works, making phone calls and mobile internet as well as wifi works, I believe (dependent on the rom) wifi tethering works (however I believe kaosfroyo may have issues with usb tethering). Hope this helps ya.

2.2 aka froyo handles the moving of apps to your sd ...

Actually, I believe that off-the-shelf Froyo supports this only for applications that have updated/marked as being compatible with living on the sd card. CyanogenMod 6, on which all the eris froyo roms are based, adds the ability to move any user-installed app to the sd card (although you're advised not to put widgets there)

I'm running KaosFroyo, and it's the least buggy rom I've ever put on my eris. Beats the pants off any 2.1 rom. Thinking about trying CELB Froyo, but this rom works too well for me to want to change it out for something else. The only issue I'm having with KaosFroyo is the Camera issue, which is the same issue CELB Froyo has. Kernel based issues suck.

It took a little work to make it the least buggy for me.

When I first flashed, ADW liked to FC all the time. 75% of the time it would reload when unlocking the phone. So what I did was wipe-flash, then flash the remove-adw zip, then wipe and reboot, then install ADW from the market...been perfect ever since.

NotiLED gets rid of the LED thing (at least til I reboot), and Camera magic will suffice for now (though I'd really love the 2.1 HTC camera app)

Other than that, it's been flawless. And FAST

+100000000

I've been running KaosFroYo v23 since Saturday now and it has been 100% awesome! No lag anywhere, everything working just as I expect a smartPHONE to work.
