Phone keeps crashing

Hi,

My HTC Hero keeps crashing and not sure what the heck is going on. It happens when I am in the middle of a phone call. It just locks up and can not do anything about it. I have to take the back off and remove the battery. Then I replace the battery and power on the Android logo comes up but the little robot doesn't. I have to then take the battery out again and redo the power cycle.

Does anyone have ANY idea why this happening ?

Regards
Anthoni

Edit 1: Just to add I am still on the old 1.5 build.
Not done any fancy updates (am patiently waiting for 3 still).
It has happened 3 times thus far, so it's not like a regular thing.

Hi,

After nearly a year my Orange does the same, usually during a long phone call and once using mixzing, the screen goes blank and nothing will bring it back, totally unresponsive, pulling the battery is the only answer.

No new apps have been installed for months, last two were mixzing upgrade and swype beta renewed, luckily it happens so infrequently I'm not too bothered but as it happens to Anthoni's I thought I'd mention it.

Stock Orange ROM, [haven't got the phone with me] released Feb this year.

Max.

Have you installed any new apps recently? Any other changes that coincide with this problem developing?

Nope, no new apps installed and nothing has changed. It only happens during a phone call never at any other time.

One odd thing did happen today however. I was getting no signal and having had this before a support agent from 3 said to rectify it I had to pull the battery wait a bit then replace. So I did this and I got the BIOS (not sure if that is the right term for this type of phone) screen. It was a white screen with all the technical info of Android (build, touch type (and build), screen mode, etc etc). At the very bottom was the Android robot on a scateboard (three of them to be precise). Pressing menu button allowed to me to enter text mode of this screen and then do a power cycle. It was most odd to it and slightly un-nerving.
