Hey guys. I urgently need some earphones but there is only one thing in my way. I at least tried the supplied htc items but they are utterly useless. So, has anybody come up with a fix for the TRS/TTRS issue? There was a thread where someone mentioned using selo tape or something to cover some of the metal bands in the jack, I tried this (I think) but it didn't work, I covered the metal band up top on the side toward the screen but it did nothing. I really need to sort this out soon because I want to get some new senheisers but they use a TRS connector and I don't want to spend $90 on something that isn't going to work properly.

Any ideas to make TRS earphones work with the desire?

TRS will work with the TRRS socket it seems. Some do, some don't.

The issue is that the socket is recessed in such a way that some trs jacks do not make contact properly / fully, resulting in low volume.

I haven't bought any replacements yet, but I have seen Ultimate earbuds recommended.

Oh I know it will work, just a lot quieter. I already have senheiser earphones with TRS and they work but only at around 50%-60% of they're potential performance. The problem is mine kaput and sound only comes out of one side , which is useless with stereo sound. Cheers for your input.

I would like to get some earphones tomorrow, does anyone have any information that could shine even a little hope on being able to use TRS (properly) with my desire?

Nooooooooooooo, thats not what I'm saying at all.

Some TRS will work at low volume due to a bad connection (because of the socket recess + the moulding on the headphone jack itself)

Other TRS will work at full volume like a TRRS will, Such as Ultimate ear buds.

Although the adaptor mentioned above may be a good, cheap test

I see.

I'm sorry the adaptor I mentioned above was actually the wrong way.
You'd need something like this:
Droid Adapter 3.5mm 4 conductor TRRS Male to 3.5mm TRS Headphone Jack

I must say that my Sennheiser HD 205s work good with the Desire though. I personally doubt that that conductor would make any difference but who knows.

Cheers, although I would hate having to have that extra weight and bulk on the cord.
