Help hotmail on droid

just use the regular email app that comes with the phone, i just entered my information and it works fine. Of course you need a plus account from hotmail i think. Not really sure as i was grandfathered in since i had my account since hotmail started. But it does work.

hotmail should allow free pop access now.

i created me @live.com in 2007, and i set it up fine in android. everything works.

It also auto set it up for me after i entered my account info. So i didnt have to manually enter the pop3mail servers, or smtp , oooooooor anything :)

Well all I can say is yes, I have all my hotmail also going to my gmail. Once in hotmail go to options at top right then more options. Under manage your account go to "Forward Mail to Another Email Account." From there enter in your gmail and you should be set... at least that is what I did and it works fine for me. Hope that helps.

I was able to get access to my hotmail by using the existing email app on my droid, and just using my emal addy and password. It automatically picked up the pop3 settings. The problem is I can't view my folders, only my main inbox. I'm guessing thats a limitation of PoP3. Also, i have a very annoying problem where it's telling me I have 'new' messages over and over, even though I already checked them as read from the phone, AND from a PC. Anyone else having these problems? I know I should be moving to Gmail fulltime, but I have had hotmail since it started and have alot of accounts linked to it.

I still cant get my hotmail working

it keeps saying that I need to force close my mail app

I used the settings here as well as just putting the email address/password easy set up and both will set up initially but its spotty from there. Sometimes it will work and sometimes it doesn't.

Can anyone help? Should i just hard reset my phone? and if so, how do i do that?

This manual setup does the exact same thing as the automatic one. The results are the same. It just does not work correctly. It keeps on saying there is new mail even though you already read the mail on your computer. It only allows access to the inbox. Something is seriously off somewhere either with a setting on the phone or at the Microsoft servers.

I agree. I appreciate the effort but the manual and automatic process get the same results. My hotmail also doesn't update with the mail I HAVE received in my main inbox until i open the program. It's showing mail i've read as 'new' after repeatedly marking it read on phone. In general its broken and is almost more of a headache than its worth. Thinking about just deleting the account from the mail app and using the web browser.

I did but I still didn't get it to work.

Like i said, it works initially but when it tries to update, I get the error 99% of the time. 1% of the time it actually works.

Pls help. Thanks

Do you have an "@hotmail.com" address? If so, are you using "Email" app or "GMail"? The Email app just prompts you for the email address and password...it should have all the settings.

For the person who can't see the folders, once you click on your inbox, press the dedicated "Menu" key, then press "Folders" from the pop-up window.

lol im not that much of a newbie...yea, i have a @hotmail account. I think the issue is documented here that the connection times out with large accounts..I could just forward to gmail but that would require me to create a new gmail account and it should really just work

I also entered the settings and for some reason it just constantly gives the busy signal. Some of my items show up in the hotmail inbox, but they are all listed as unread and the account won't send items. They just sit in the outbox saying "sending messages". Is it possibly due to a large account?

thats my conclusion that i got from searching the boards and forums since I can't get hotmail working either

the email protocol times out when the mailbox is large
