i've got my eris, it's super slow, i hate it etc and i want the incredible. however, i just saw a video of a rooted eris and it seemed so much faster than my stock guy is. if i were to root it, does that get rid of the keyboard text lag? because this thing is awful and lags horribly when typing.

question is: should i root my phone, or go for the incredible? would rooting my phone make me NOT want an incredible anymore? any ideas?

I did the following and it made me fall in love with the Eris all over again. (Granted, I've never had any of the silent bug or other errors outside of lag through all the updates. Color me lucky i suppose.)

- Root
- Overclock
- Remove Sense UI, replace with Launcher Pro

Getting rid of Sense was the icing on the cake... the lag problems of everything have disappeared. In all fairness though, the latest update did fix alot of the lag issues, just not all of them. Just be careful if you overclock... follow the advice of posters & guides so you don't overheat/brick your phone.

Seriously, this is what the Eris should have been out of the box. Sense, while nice, is too much of a hog to be on the Eris. Even Android's Home was better than that.

If you need any help getting started let me know. Extensive reading of this forum and xda-developers, and advice from posters here helped me accomplish everything I wanted out of this phone!!

Oh - and for any Eris users that want the voice-to-text on the stock keyboard, follow this: [MOD] HTC_IME (8th June) v27: Small fix - xda-developers

** Eris: Use Low res for 1.6 and up **

With the above mentioned tweaks I've done, the voice to text works incredibly smooth and accurate!

yeah, i saw that about evil eris, i think i'm going to flash to that rom using the awesome rooting for dummies walkthrough lol...this is my last ditch effort to try and want to keep my eris

my main problem is, what if the whole getting rid of unlimited data sucks? we MAY be grandfathered in, but the second i want to upgrade to an Inc, i'll have to choose a new plan...basically meaning i probably have until July 29th to confirm an order of the Inc so that i could be grandfathered still (if they do that) with the new phone. bah!
