Captivate vs Incredible

I'm looking to move to Android from my iPhone 3G and up until recently I was pretty set on an HTC Incredible.

Stumbled upon the Captivate recently and have been considering it instead of the DInc. I like the extra screen space (despite same resolution) and the sleeker body styling. I'm a little worried after reading the "bugs" thread here as it seems a lot of people are having a lot of issues with the DCap.

Has anyone owned both a DInc and DCap? What are you impressions of the DCap after owning a DInc?

Yes I had the Droid Incredible when it first came out a month or two ago. Owned it for 3 days, had to get a replacement in that time, both had terrible signal, just terrible, and both terrible battery life, freezing of phone, only way to get image off screen was to take out battery. Left me with a sour taste in my mouth, it was a piece of junk. Also both had screen defects, the Captivate I got from Att has been perfectly constructed and no signal problems whatsoever and battery last's all day.

Wow sorry to hear. Sounds like you had a pretty bad experience with the DInc, but I think it was atypical. Most users seem to be pretty happy with the phone.

Yeah I also had the Incredible up until 3 days ago when i switched to ATT, Only thing i miss is the HTC sense weather widget, other than that the Captivate is much nicer.. I love the Super AMOLED screen, you can view it in sunlight much much easier than with the incredible. also on-board 16GB is really nice and i think the actual hardware is designed much better than the Incredible. This Captivate (Galaxy S) phone(s) is definitly a hidden gem out there in the smartphone world. Let me know if you have any questions about it or the differences

Any other quirks you've found? Death grip issues affected you much?

Never owned a Droid Incredible, so I can't say much about it. However, I haven't had much issues in the way of sluggishness with the Captivate, and I'm still using the TouchWiz that came with the phone.

Also, the Droid Incredible has a standard AMOLED screen, not Super AMOLED. The Galaxy S series of phones are the only ones to carry the Super AMOLED screen (right now). I would explain the differences, but it would take a while and it would probably be much easier to search for it. Needless to say, while AMOLED screens are good, Super AMOLED is superior. Also, because of an AMOLED shortage, not all DIncs have AMOLED screens, some have Super TFT LCD screens.

Ah right, I forgot the Incredible was a normal AMOLED screen.

I did read the thread on possible LCDs in DInc's but it didn't seem like anyone has been able to actually confirm that yet. Although it does seem to be on the horizon.

Hmm interesting. Yea the Captivate seems to be everything I'm looking for in an Android phone, it's just the performance that concerns me. I'm sure once 2.2 comes along that will help tremendously.

Do you find performance degrading quickly when you're doing something like listening to Pandora and browsing the web / using Google Maps? That's the kind of multi tasking I would do often where slow performance would drive me crazy.

Yes the Incredible was always really fast and as for the Captivate... I am not worried about it being a millisecond to slow once in a while.. Samsung has a patch on the horizon and its coming very soon im sure some things like that will be fixed... no death grip issue and the screens are definitely different, this new Super AMOLED is much nicer. Also this phone is more media friendly.. DLNA support, H.264 compatible the media player is much, much more polished, and there is also a Equalizer and a dedicated video player as well. So IMO much nicer than the Incredible (Surprisingly)

No it is not sluggish, I do not have any extra apps installed, but it is just as fast as the Droid X I returned it for or the D incredible. All the phones out now are pretty much the same speed, EVO, as well. No sluggishness, I think that must come from having tons of apps or something running on the phone at once.

The Dinc screen faded out in sunlight bad, but the captivates screen does a lot better in sunlight. No the death grip or signal has not effected me and I live in a very marginal area, the signal holds strong. The Dinc had terrible radio for signal and would drop to nothing at my home. Also I had a first production Dinc, so maybe they improved it I don't know. The Dinc also froze up in hot conditions and had to have battery removed, they may have fixed this stuff, but that was my experience with it about 2 months ago when it first came out.

For me, it did not degrade with the more apps you open. It's just that some of the apps you are in can have a random stall time of one or 2 seconds. Multitasking has no problem with lag. It's just a random moment where you're doing something and it just stops for a second or 2 and it runs normal.

Not that I love pointing things like this out, but I had to say it cause it bugged me when I read it lol.
I imagine by DCap you meant Droid Captivate... the Captivate is not a Droid phone. It's just the Samsung Captivate.

Thanks guys, picked up a Captivate, so far it's great. Immediately installed a different launcher and the lag when closing apps is gone.

I really don't see what all the fuss is about... I tried Launcher Pro and really didn't care for it. Went back to TW, and I like it a lot. It does everything I wanted it to. Also, I don't notice any lag that everyone is crying about... Maybe I'm just lucky?

2.2 stock rom froyo will fix all the problems (maybe not the GPS) that the reviews ding the galaxy phones for. I cannot wait
