Hi folks, a friend of mine went to upgrade her contract to the HTC Desire but was told in the shop that it had been discontinued and replaced by the Wildfire. Now, from what I have read the wildfire is the 'baby' version of the desire with less bells and whistles on it. Can anyone shed some light

Yes, the Wildfire is basically a mini version of the Desire, with lesser specs, nothing wrong with the Wildfire but it's aimed at a market that can't afford a Desire.

HTC aren't discontinuing the Desire so sounds to me like they've run out of stock of the Desire and are trying to shift a few more Wildfire phones.

Google the Desire and Wildfire and compare specs and have a look on YouTube for any reviews and make your mind up as to which one you want.

If you can afford the Desire then personally this is the phone to go for over the Wildfire.

I have Desire and got my sister Wildfire (Still a kid). I have to say screen on desire is beautiful but it looks little blocky on wildfire. However apart from that it's slightly slower and lacking some 3d effect, but if I was on budget I can live with low res screen as phone is pretty much identical to desire and it's got all of desire's awesomeness.
