Paint "dent" on my phone already

I've had the phone only since Tuesday, and I just noticed a dent in the paint, if that's the correct description, near the bottom right corner (an inch below the Search button, slightly to the right). It looks as if someone pushed their finger nail into the paint really hard. It's the same height as the letter G in "SAMSUNG" printed under the screen.

The phone was dropped by a child on the car mat once before, but I don't think that's what caused it.

Any ideas on how to fix it, or if I can get it replaced? (I got it from letstalk.com for free with contract).

Not sure with letstalk, but with ATT corp you could just exchange it out for a new one since your within your 30 days and they wouldn't notice the little chip.

Can I give you some tough love here? BUCK UP SOLDIER! You're being ridiculous. You SHOULD be thankful that you actually managed to get it for free from that sale. Most weren't that lucky. And, your phone is going to get some nicks and bangs and dents over the next two years, so just deal with it. It's only freaking you out because it's the first mark. Take a deep breath and rest assured that you will, probably sooner than later, have another.

I'm sure it was shipped that way. I'd be bummed too but trust me returning it is a crapshoot... if you look for little problems like that with your phone you will find them. With almost any electronics.

This is coming from a guy who returned 9 PSP's till he was satisfied. There are small variences in most electronics, paint issues etc etc. Nothing is perfect and technically it's not a valid reason for a return because it's cosmetic.

I'm now thinking it was shipped like that. The scratch is deep. I don't see how it could have been caused by a fall on the car mat. This wouldn't have bothered if it happened six months down the road. It's only been two days!

I emailed letstalk about this. If they say they won't exchange it, then I will just accepty my scarred beautiful Captivate as it is. :)

Or just return it to them, cancel service, and start service again with ATT corp store and get a brand new one at the store, my unit came perfect, if it came like that I would return it.

well he did enter into a contract with letstalk who is a less than reputable company, and has to either return the device or pay the etf or let it go to collections.

I contacted letstalk and they started the exchange process. She asked her boss and came back on the phone and said that since it's been less than a week, it's still within a reasonable period of time within which the user notices such a defect. If it were more than a week, then they would assume that I should have noticed the problem earlier and therefore by default I must have caused it.

So now I'm debating whether I should do it at all. I don't want to be without the Captivate for too long! Then there's the horror stories about exchanges with letstalk.

either exchange it or return it, seems like it is heavily on your mind so I would do something.

I would just get a case that covers the scratch. I am more compulsive about those types of things than anyone. When I got my new laptop a few years ago it had a small scratch on the back. I was so frustrated I wanted to ship it back. I pushed it off until it got the next scratch, then the next and never returned it. Now a few years later it has normal wear marks and I look back and think how silly it would have been to send it back for a little scratch, even if it came like that.
I think that since this is a device you will bring everywhere, it will get pretty roughed up. Its not a TV you leave in your house.
