Accessories One word of warning when using Soundgate M2 in a HOT location

Just a word of warning to people using the Soundgate M2 to mount their phone in a location in their car that gets direct sunlight. Mine was mounted at the front/top of my dash and barely sat in the sun, but since its 95 and humid here BOY it heated up quickly. So quickly that just on a 30 minute drive to get lunch the screen protector I had started MELTING IN THE CORNER. Obviously this is no way the Soundgate's fault other than making it possible to mount your phone wherever you want. Definitely mount it in a location that does not get direct sunlight in your car if you live in a hot area. I never thought the sun would actually melt anything. Good grief.

P.S. the type of screen protector I had was one of those from Ebay that uses water to apply it and requires taking the battery out of the device and letting it dry overnight. it was AWESOME (no bubbles, couldn't even tell it was on the device, no peeling corners) up until this.

Good to know. Haven't had any issues with my M2 and hot sun (the mount itself). I took my screen protector off a few weeks back though since it got a fairly large scratch and one of the corners started to come up (couldn't for the life of me get it stay back down - tried tape adhesive, heat gun, but no luck). Finally just decided to go naked.

My Incredible heated up quickly using this mount on top of my dashboard with the GPS on for 2 hours. Nothing melted but it was really hot. I wish I had a better location to mount on but that's about it. I have another mount though that clips onto my a/c so I'll probably use that mount during the day if I need the GPS.

You could always use one or more cocktail umbrellas to get the job done

You could even permanently attach it. Think about it. The EVO has a kick stand, but how many cell phones can say they have an umbrella?

Yeah, is that what you did? How's it working out for you? I'm not sure the umbrellas are for me but I'm glad you find that such a useful idea. I just mounted a second M2 in a less sunny spot, but hey if you're all about using fruity colored umbrellas kudos to you man!

My M2 melted off my car dash as well. I thought it would be enough to have it be out of the sun, but it gets pretty hot in my car. It ended up melting off, however, so now I think I'm going to go with the Tetrax X-way.

wow my second one that i mounted 4-5 inches lower on the front of my dash also melted off. again turned the adhesive sticker into a weird thick grey gum and it moves all over the place. unfortunate because it seems like a great build/idea just not all the way there yet. I read in some other posts on this forum that some people used a rubber silicone alternative to mount their M2 that's easy to clean off and very heat resistant. Forget the name though and now can't find the thread...they said they used it on their Stormtrooper outfits or something? lol.

for the 2 weeks my M2 stayed up i absolutely loved it. if you live up in a cold area I definitely recommend it...lol.
