My Droid X will not connect with my work Exchange Server. I read this and other forums and some people have this issue.
I tested my settings on the orignal Droid and Incredible at the Verizon store, but no matter how I try my settings, my Droid X will not work. It also worked fine on the Sprint Evo.
I called customer service and I took it to 2 cooperate Verizon stores without success.
1/2 the reason I got a smart phone was so I could get my exchange emails.
So I am forced to have to part with the Droid X. What would you do?
Go to the Evo (next closest to the Droid X), get an Incredible? Keep nagging Verizon/Motorola customer service?
I love the Evo and lets face it, the everything data package they offer has advantages. But the signal is not as good. I really enjoy the iHeart radio app, and it dies all over the place on the EVO.
If I go with an Incredible, I am going to have to wait forever for it to come in

I would actually talk to the IT department that manages the Exchange server. At my work they had to put some protocols in place so I could use it with Exchange. Now my corporate directory, e-mails, and calendar work just fine. I had the same issue when I first started using the Incredible with Exchange.
+1 on your IT dept. I'd also keep working with VZW. Have you tried to contacted Moto yet?

I wouldn't say the Evo is the next closest. About the only thing the same between them is the screen size. You may want to check out the new Samsung Galaxy S phones if you end up parting with your X. They are more similar to the X than anything IMO. Plus, they are on every network, so you won't have to choose a specific network just to get a specific phone.

The Droid X support for Exchange(Outlook) sucks. I can easily get emails (both to and from) on my Droid X. Calendar and Contacts will not synch for updates or for Calendar entries older that one month. I spent 1.5 hours on the phone with Motorola tech support yesterday. They said it was my IT department's problem. I disagreed. My iPod Touch can sync seemlessly with my company's exchange server.

Solution?

I downloaded the trial version of Touchdown. Touchdown syncs everything on my Droid X from the Exchange server. I have a 30 day free trial of touchdown. If the 2.2 Froyo upgrade does not fix the syncing problem I will purchase Touchdown.

I'd actually report more accurately what your problem is here so the 2 or 3 of us with IT experience and tech support experience can assist.

If its a security certificate issue, this will be corrected in 2.2. The EVO will have the same problem but hey, you'll get a cool kickstand.....

Ok, apologize if this is too simplistic, but it is worth a shot.

I had trouble setting mine up, and here was my problem:

The first field that says "name" or whatever should be the portion of your email address before the "@" symbol. It's not what you would like to name your inbox.

so if your email is "droid@microsoft.google.com" you should put only "droid" in the first field.

Hope it helps.

"microsoft.google.com" should go in the server field.

Mine works with my employers exchange just fine. Other than one issue. I cannot get notifications for new emails. I get them for the calendar part of exchange, but not the email part. I would use touchdown, but I use Google for my personal calendar, and exchange of course for my work. But touchdown will only sync with my work. So I end up having to have two calendars. Which sux. Anyone know of a fix for the exchange email no notifications?

I agree with the above, try touchdown. When I called my IT dept. they were kind of pissy and said I cant check work emails on my phone even though I had been doing it on my iphone for over a year. Try touchdown and use the log in information that you would if you were logging into your work email from home. Touchdown was the only thing I could get to work, sucks paying for it, but it was worth it to me.

This was posted over in the Motorola forums from Motorola....

First, I want to thank everyone for their help and patience as we worked though this. Much appreciated.

Some Droid X users are experiencing an issue using Exchange 2003 email. Though the email is arriving on the Droid X, no notifications are appearing. A fix for this will be included in the upgrade to Android 2.2 scheduled for deployment by early September.

In the interim, many owners have reported success using Touchdown from NitroDesk, Inc. to manage Exchange email. Touchdown appears to provide email notifications.

Motorola does not support Touchdown in its call centers or guarantee Touchdown. However, we are working with Touchdown to provide Droid X owners Touchdown licenses (supplies permitting) that can be used to get Exchange 2003 email and notifications on the DroidX.

To request a Touchdown license from Motorola, please send an e-mail to level3@mailwc.custhelp.com, and include the following information.

Your email address
Your name (for validation purposes)
Your Droid X cell number (for validation purposes)
Your Droid X DEC and HEX MEID numbers

I am my office's IT department, run Exchange 2003, and have no problems with email, contacts or calendar events using the corporate sync setup. I even get email and event notifications. What are your specific errors when you try to set it up? It may just be a field entry problem.

The only time I ran into a certificate issue was on a BB after an update was installed on both Exchange servers.

ETA - Important note - is OWA enabled on your Exchange servers? My setup actually uses the webmail address.

Could you provide and example of the credentials that you enter using OWA? Obviously use fake server names and such. I'm in the IT dept. where I work and can't seem to get this to work. I just chalked it up to the server and software being old.

Going down the screen: user name is internal domain name\login id, password is domain password, email address is full address for external SMTP delivery, server is the webmail server fqdn (however your users access OWA), and the account name is the external address domain name without the .com. Use secure connection is checked, but verify cert is not.

Let me know if you need further clarification, my email environment may be set up a little differently than yours. My internal domain and external email domain names are not the same.
