can I return Droid X if I mailed in rebate?

My gut feeling is to say no. If it was possible, people would take advantage of that to get rebate money without buying the product. If you could, you would be stealing $100 from Motorola (or Verizon - whichever the rebate was through).

But perhaps they will allow you to return it and give you $100 less than what you paid. In other words, maybe they will give you $199 back if you bought it for $299.

Here is the Verizon Wireless Return Policy.

Wireless Device/Accessory Return and Exchange Policy
This policy applies to all new and Certified Pre-Owned wireless device and accessory purchases except Prepaid wireless devices, which are governed by the Verizon Wireless Prepaid Return Policy.

We will gladly accept returns or make exchanges on all wireless devices and accessories purchased from Verizon Wireless within 30 days of purchase. The wireless device or accessory must be in the original box with all components, in like-new condition and accompanied by the original receipt. A restocking fee of $35 applies to all wireless device returns and to all wireless device exchanges (excluding Hawaii).

......

At our discretion, we may decline your return or charge you a fee for a missing item, or for items that we determine are damaged or require service. If you return and we accept your merchandise within the 30?day return period, we will refund your purchase price, subject to a $35 restocking fee for the return of all wireless devices (excluding Hawaii). If you return a wireless device without a UPC on the box, the amount of the refund will be reduced by the amount of any mail?in rebate that was available for the wireless device at the time of purchase. Purchases made by cash or check, credit card or gift card will be refunded by check, credit card or gift card, respectively.

It wont matter that you mailed in the rebate.
Its basiclly why we have to wait so long to get them mailed back to us.
They wait until the 30 return period is done etc, then they check your account to see if you even still have that device.
Your ok for the return, but as someone already mentioned, they may nail you with a restocking fee.

Would i still get the$ 100 debate or would I just lose that money? Can I make the return to any store or do I have to go back to the VZW store I bought it from?

I bought two touch pro 2's (verizon tele sales) and returned them when I heard about the Droid. When they were returned I had all ready received the mail in rebates (Got it in 10 days) I expected Verizon to dock me 100.00 per phone but they never did. (SCORE) I never cut my boxes, I just peel off the sticker and attach it to a piece of paper. So I don't know about the 30 day policy and checking if you still have service...

You will still get the rebate. It is just that they subtract that amount from your refund when you make the return.

So for example, you purchased the phone for 299.99..with tax it comes to $320.99. Ehen you return the phone you should be refunded 185.99 (320.99-100.00-35.00).

You will then still get the $100.00 rebate.

The net result is that you lost only the $35.00 re-stock fee.
