Eris anecdotes

Yesterday, I left work in a hurry to get to a lecture, turning off airplane mode and wifi since I actually get signal outside of the building. I also turned on GPS, since I needed directions to the place. As usual, the power control widget did not respond. Unsure after 30 seconds, I hit wifi and GPS again. They responded within a few seconds this time. Great!

I then proceeded to open navigation and type my destination. Sadly, my phone apparently has no GPS, so it can't give me directions. Navigation app crashes. Screw the power control widget, I drag it to the trash spitefully, go into Settings and turn GPS on that way.

Open navigation again. I speak my destination. Seven thousand one, weston parkway, cary, N C. It heard me! Amazing. Only 5 minutes of sitting in my car at the side of the road where I pulled over to wait for my phone, and and I am on my way again. It's lagging about 1/4 mile behind my actual position, but that's normal.

5 minutes into the drive, I see the hateful little notices that accompany a press on the power control widget pop up one after the other: "Turn off WiFi" ... "Turn off GPS" .... WHAT?!?! Nav app crashes, of course, after verbally informing me that it has lost the GPS signal. Obviously. I go back to settings, turn the GPS on AGAIN, and reopen navigation. Back on the road... for 2 minutes, because after all, my eris has been on for almost 9 hours now and the poor thing is EXHAUSTED. Powering off...

That's terrible. Unfortunately, if you call Verizon Tech Support, they are just going to tell you to perform a factory reset. It only takes a few minutes and will probably help the performance quite a bit.

I'm seriously considering ROOTING. I've got a spare phone so have absolutely nothing to lose, but my primary and my wife's have been working pretty well lately. Doing away with the stock weather widget and shutting down background services helped a lot.

Good luck!

Several weeks ago I was sitting at home pulling the battery out. Then booting the phone back up using both the "Send" and the "Power/end" key. Then pressing the "volume" key and 2.5-3 seconds later (1-1000, 2-1000, 3-1000, 4-1000) then pushing the SD card in. Then repeat.....It was horrible. ;)

NOOOOOOOO!!!! I would like to forget about that waste of time procedure! I want my (insert ridiculous of amount of time) back!!! And sore finger(s) from that STUPID memory card! Not bad memories at all.
