Hi everyone! I've been a long time Verizon customer and was due for an upgrade last December. I held off on upgrading my phone because I heard rumors that the iPhone was coming to VZW. I waited for it because I love Apple products (I also own the Macbook Pro and iPod Touch). I couldn't wait anymore (because who knows how long that will be) so I started researching the new Android phones (specifically the Moto Droid and Droid Incredible). I did a ton of research and read a lot of reviews and finally settled on the Incredible. I ordered it last month. Right after that I heard about the Droid X so I began reading up on it. I was going to choose between the two. Luckily my Incredible arrived the same day the X was released so I got the chance to go into a VZW store and do some comparisons. Needless to say, I settled with the Incredible. The X is just too big for me. This is my first smartphone/Android phone so I'm really excited. So far, I'm loving it. The only things I don't like are the short battery life and the not-so-good call quality. This forum has been really helpful and I'm glad I found it.

I'm in the same boat, this is my first smart phone/Android Phone. I've had it for a few months now and this is what helped me adjust to the battery of a smart phone.

1) Put all the widget on a screen that help you operate your settings. Things like Wifi, 3G, Bluetooth should all be turned off when not necessary.

2) Putting the screen to auto brightness helped my battery life a little.

3) This one helped the most - Go to settings, Accounts and Sync, and turn it off. Unless you really need everything syncing, I found it to be useless. It is easier on the battery just to manual refresh things like facebook or the news, rather then every 1-2 hours.

I agree 100%^^^
I am also new to Android and smart phones, the battery life is what I expected, it lasts me through the day and charge it every night, no big deal.

But to say that you "settled" for the Incredible? IMO I think it is the best overall phone for most users out there. I have toyed with the other big players, but the INC is a very balanced devise and very powerful.

LOL I know right? Just like people get it because they can't get the iphone but not out of researching that they are better off. One thing I know is that if the ihpne was a much better product I would have it. Work would have bought one for me but I refused and got an android handset. I am thrilled at my choice and I love the fact that i don't have to jailbreak my phone to have a good device and I love that the OS updates make my phone better instead of giving me features that my phone should have had from the beginning. Sheeple make me lol.

I read somewhere that you should sat the auto brightness to about 10-30 percent.

since you are new to android from crapple, i would like to inform you, that on android u can actually install any which app you please even if its not on the android market.

also u can actually view flash websites (not all just yet, but soon).

oh and multi-tasking is not a joke, it really works.

and most importantly, feel free to hold your phone any which way you please.

If you are an outdoors guy/gal or live in a sunny state, I highly recommend putting 100% brightness.
I live in California (so I'd consider it a sunny state since we have year-round summers:p) and what I found works best for me is having the power-widget and utilizing that. It has 3 options: low, medium (which is about 35% brightness), and high. Most of the time I leave it on medium and when I'm outside, I'll toggle it to high. Works good, and the battery life has been terrific.
