Latest update... "smoother" than Droid X??

I recently picked up a Droid X, but had to revert back to my Eris because of a technical issue. I noticed when I turned on the Eris that there was a new update.

After installing, I was amazed at how responsive it is now! I think the 2.1 update was a big improvement, but I think it's even better now. When I'm scrolling the app drawer, it is actually smoother than on the X. The camera, mail, and messaging also seem to load very quickly.

Whoever worked on these updates did an amazing job... I'm thinking of going back to my Eris! I was frustrated with all of its problems before, but now I am confident that it is much more solid.

It's ironic that I'm now having antenna problems on my brand new X.

Anyone have a similar experience with their Eris?

I'm glad your Eris is running much smoother...

but saying it's smoother than the X might be a stretch..., a HUGE stretch!

The X is simply a great phone... best out there right now IMO. A friend of mine got one and I only played with it for a minute. I was too jelous.

The difference you might be noticing is Sense. Sense can be great when it's not slowing down your Eris.
The X does not have Sense... so the feel is a little different. But it's WAY faster than the fastest Eris could ever be

I actually see what he means. I was using my friends original Moto Droid, and when using Launcher Pro, it was VERY choppy compared to my Eris. Its a faster phone overall, but for some reason, some things (like animations) were choppier.

Are you guys just talking about flipping through screens and that kind of thing?

I think the true difference would be seen when opening an app like Contacts. On my Eris it always took a a couple of seconds to load up. (I have a lot of contacts) On my new Moto Droid it pops right up instantly... and I'm sure on the X it's even faster,

Yes, the smoothness I am seeing is while I'm "flipping" through screens or apps. The X certainly loads very fast and is very snappy overall. But, in comparing them side-by-side, I find it really curious that the X doesn't flip through screens as fluidly as the Eris.

It is interesting to me that the Eris was somewhat glitchy when it first came out and works much better with the new updates. I wonder if the "smoothness" factor will be improved in future updated of the X. (Especially the upcoming 2.2 update). Only time will tell!

I'm assuming that it might be a buggy or poorly optimized graphics driver. That shouldn't be ridiculously hard to fix in a future update.

What is faster than instant? Does it load up before you even click it, because it just knows?

That sounds promising, and I'm sure you're right. I'm also going to try LauncherPro and see how I like that. I have been reading that it makes the interface quite smooth.
Yep. There is NO good reason a extremely high end phone like the Droid X should be getting outperformed by the lowly Eris in ANY way. I'm assuming its a software problem and bug on Motorola's part.
