Receiving Texts While Phone Is Off

On GSM texts have an expiry period, the carrier will attempt to send them until that point. On the phones I've had you can choose the expiry period for the messages you send, I seem to remember they varied from an hour to a day or more. The setting was in the same place as the setting for delivery reports.

I don't know why you need to turn off your phone. I had Treos for the last 5 years that didn't even have an off button. If you don't want to hear alerts, just put the phone in slient mode, but leave it on.
Oh it's just for when I'm flashing new ROMS or if the phone dies out on me really. Just asked because lately I've missed a few important texts while it was off.

Your not going to be able to receive texts while its off, because its, well, off. Nothing is running on the phone, except maybe the internal clock. You are completely disconnected from the network. But your carrier should hold your texts until you turn it back on and then you should receive them shortly.

Oddly when I turn my phone off, it still wakes itself up when an alarm I've set goes off, I guess that's just an extension of the clock really. Certainly doesn't receive texts though.

Some do (SE & BB IIRC) have the option to allow alarms when the phone/smartphone functions are 'off', but not Android I believe.

I believe Orange in the UK will dump texts after 24hrs if undelivered, and sometimes I've found that if you do get texts sent while your phone is off, they can take quite a while to arrive once you're online again, and don't necessarily arrive in order.
