I am very interested in buying to DX after reading all the reviews, visiting forums, and watching youtube videos on it. However, I am on my parents plan (I am an authorized administrator on it though--with my dad) and I am not due for an update, but my dad is. I was told that it's really no issue to just have my dad use his upgrade and then give it to me.

After reading these forums, I want to get the phone off of newegg.com due to the free shipping and $180 price tag. I have a few questions about that

1. When newegg asks for the phone number on the account, do I put my dad's because HE is the one with the upgrade available?

2. Assuming question 1 is true, when I receive the phone in the mail and activate it--will it automatically default to my dad's number, or can I make it activate to my number immediately?

3. If it has to activate to my dad's account, all my dad would have to do is dial #228 on his "old" (current) phone and reactivate it...then all I would have to do is dial #228 on the DX and link it to my number? How do I choose it to go to my number, would I dial it in a certain prompt?

All in all, is this a pretty easy/fast process? Or is it a lot of trouble?

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I ordered my Incredible with someone elses upgrade. All you have to do is call 611 when you recieve it and they can activate it on your number no problem.
PS use your dad's number when you order from new egg

So I dial 611 (is it #611 or *611 or just 611) and the rep will activate it on my number instead of going thru the whole process of activating it on my dads number then my dad reactivating his old phone, then me reactivating the droid x to my number? My head is spinning.

Just 611. And they will just activate your new phone. Pretty much hassle free

Or if you have access to the online account, just activate it there. That's what I did with my DX.

Ok, here I have a few other questions after looking at newegg again...It's asking me to choose the plan (minutes, etc) as I am checking out. I know I want the minutes to remain the same as they are on the account (crurently 1400 per month between Dad, Mom and me, but I want to have the unlimited data plan....Do I choose the minutes that correspond to our current plan or just go with whatever? I don't even see a 1400 option....

Thanks

Is there an option through Newegg as an upgradeable customer to just upgrade the phone and NOT change or update phone plans (minutes allowed) outside of the required data plan.

I called verizon just now and they said (they can't really comment on third party websites, naturally) that I should not have to update or change my current plan since I am due for an upgraded phone....

I used my mom's upgrade to get the Dx. I did *228 to accept the terms on my mom's line so her contract is extended and then I pressed the number that allowed me to activate it at a different time. After that i activated the phone online onto my line. I had a few problems because the Dx still asked for an activation even though it was activated already. Had to call costumer service and get it fixed, but it was rather easy.

To insure you don't run into any bumps, you can just call costumer service when you get the phone and tell them it's an alternate upgrade.
