I can certainly say to be careful with wirefly--I only add newegg because the automated phone line is the exact same recording and voice, same hold music, etc, so I assume newegg too--- if you are trying to use SOMEONE ELSE'S upgrade on your plan.

Wirefly said to me that if my dad got the upgrade then gave it to me, that we could not switch the phone numbers by calling verizon. We would have to wait 6 months before doing that. He said it is a wirefly thing and nothing to do with verizon, even though I told him verizon said I would be able to switch the upgraded phone (dads upgrade) to my number. He told me otherwise.

If that's the case, the only place I can get the upgrade from and switch it to my number is verizon.....

Here's my two cents on the whole Newegg phone sales:

We bought my girlfriend her Droid X on the 17th (Saturday) on Newegg.com for $179.99 shipped with a new Verizon contract (she was upgrading from her first gen iPhone on AT&T). The actual buying process was great. The website was easy to configure the plan/services.
On Monday 19th, we had the tracking number and the phone was delivered on Wednesday 21st in the morning. So far so good.

First thing my gf noticed was that the shipping box was pretty beat up and the actual Droid X's box was floating around in the bigger box without padding and was also beat up. She was pissed. The phone, however, was in good condition with no apparent damage or anything.

We then tried to activate the phone using the included printout with the instructions. It had her current AT&T number listed (the one to be ported over to VZW) and a temporary number (to be used for activation).

We booted up the phone and tried the activation. The automated system could not recognize either numbers. Tried multiple times and we were eventually connected to a live Verizon rep. He informed us that their system didn't show either number as valid and that it was due to the seller not having sent the customer information to Verizon yet.

We were a bit annoyed since we figured that should have been done once we purchased the phone and credit check was approved or at least during the package's transit time to us. So we called Newegg and they told us they don't handle the phone sales. It is handled by another company called Simplexity (IMHO from their name, their motto should be Making easy things complicated). I was a bit shocked at first since Newegg's site makes it look like it's all handled by them, but alas, I should have read the fine print disclaimer on their phone section.

So I call Simplexity (on Thursday 22nd) to ask them to send our customer info to Verizon since we are anxious to activate the phone. The lady on the phone tells me it will take up to 24 hours as they have to escalate the issue to their activation team. I get her name and hang up. I keep trying the activation every few hours to no avail. 24 hours later (on the dot), I call them back and ask what's going on. It is now Friday morning (the 23rd). I get another customer service rep and I get the same spiel about the 24 hours activation wait that will now start from this second call. I'm starting to get aggravated as the week-end looms and I know that if shit isn't done before the weekend then I'll have to wait until Monday. So I decide to give it a few more hours and keep trying the activation every hour. Around 3 or 4 pm that Friday, I decide to contact them again to get stuff going. I am now less patient and tell them that if the activation isn't done by the end of business on Friday, we will cancel the entire contract and return the phone for a full refund. This time I am told they will do everything they can to have it working ASAP and they've escalated the issue to a superior, blah blah blah.

Finally, late on Friday evening, my gf calls me from her land line to tell me that her iPhone just now started saying No Service. I boot up the Droid X and try the activation and now, at 8:00pm on Friday 23rd, the phone finally activates and we are good to go.

The whole experience kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't really have an issue with Newegg (I've spent close to $10K with them over the years and will continue to do so). Newegg was one of the few reputable sites to have the Droid X in stock when VZW was sold out. But I do have a problem with third-party sellers. It only adds more issues and it's hard finding out who to talk to to get shit resolved.

That's my Newegg/Simplexity story. Hope the read wasn't too long but I wanted to make sure this was said and available to anybody considering using Simplexity.

We regret that you had this experience with us on our order. Verizon Wireless had notified us of an intermittent problem with their automated activation system. Most orders were not affected, however Verizon was working all weekend with us to resolve this issue.

We have received confirmation from them that the issue has been resolved.

Heh...way to make an excuse and blame the "other" one.

If that was the case, why was it not stated to the customer?

Everything with simplexity, wirefly, sears.com, radioshack.com, Dell.com(mobility), etc. Takes at least 24 hrs to be scalated. You know what would be nice ? If they wouldn't complete the charge on your card until your phone was active, but that part of their service works extremely well. Their cs sucks.

I'm sure you informed the customer about this, so that he would understand the delay. Right ?

If you buy through a third-party retailer, you are bound to all sorts of things. You cannot change your plan within something like 180 days or you have to pay for the phone. You cannot deactivate the phone (ie: switch it to another line) or you have to pay for the phone. You can't even change your minutes without going through them, or you get a bill for the phone.

Be very, very, very careful with third-party retailers. Yes, they can offer good deals, but sometimes with a very high price tag. It might be worth it to just go straight through Verizon.

I said the same thing in the pre-release thread when Wirefly was offering the ultra, super, special, please-don't-read-the-fine-print, midnight launch offer. If you read the purchase agreement it basically says they can (and will) charge you $200 if you make virtually any change to your account/service within 181 days. The only way around that would be if Verizon didn't report the change to them.

Ah, yes, 181 days. I forgot a day, and that'll cost you big. :D

Here are Wirefly's policies:

What are the specific terms of the Equipment Discount Provision? By completing your purchase with us you accept the Equipment Discount and agree that for a period of 181 days after your new equipment is activated, you

will pay your balance due to your selected wireless service provider each month
will not disconnect the line of service fulfilled by us
will not transfer this equipment to another account
will not change your rate plan to a lower monthly service rate
will not deactivate the email/data feature if one was required at the point of purchase

If this is a new line of service (not a contract extension or upgrade), you also agree that you

will not port or transfer an existing mobile number from another account to this new line of service
will not use this new line of service to replace an existing account with your wireless service provider

I don't understand all the fuss. You most certainly can change your plan without paying an ETF to Wirefly; you just can't switch to a plan cheaper than that required at the time of sign-up. This is no different than what Verizon requires. Verizon won't let you drop your $30 data plan or go lower than 450 minutes with your X either. If you do that, then you've broken your agreement with Verizon and they'll charge you an ETF. You also can't deactivate your service with Verizon early without paying an ETF. If you don't pay your bill, Verizon will eventually cancel your account, charge you an ETF and send you to collections.

For the other conditions it's not obvious to me that Verizon requires, but they all seem reasonable. If you buy from Wirefly (really any 3rd party), you're usually getting a better deal than you can get from Verizon (I got 2 X's for $260 total). I think these reasonable conditions (which only apply for 6 months) are worth it. That is, of course, unless your intent is to defraud the company by making an agreement you know you're not going to live up to.

This has nothing to do with newegg. End of story. If you dont like what Newegg has to offer then shop somewhere else.

They use the same company for wireless devices, so it has everything to do with them. Newegg and wirefly are fine, but just be careful of the fine print is all I am saying. I love newegg, so chill.

Wow... Really sorry to hear about your luck.

FIRST OFF LET ME SAY SWITCHED FROM CAPTIVATE AND CRAP ATT TO VERIZON AND DROID X

Verizon said 3 week wait to get a droid x and that if i didn't sign up today I could not get one because it was fulfillment orders only.

Well half a month prorated with no phone but services is 60$ (on the lower end, yet still an assumption)

I went to new egg, ordered the phone ($179) and car charger (30$) overnight shipping (20$) was still less then the droid x alone out the door from Verizon.

They have been there via online chat 3 times for me. No major issues lucky but still a good company got my phone to me next day. No bs no hassle.

This is all to protect them from their kickbacks... they dont want you getting a phone for 150$ over and over canceling contacts and selling them. Its called early termination at any regular carrier.

Fyi... All of this is due to you porting your number. Its normal with porting. Happens even if you do at verizon. Its normal.

I didnt port my number. I wanted to get rid of some people. I got my droid booted it up *288 activated and i was out the door and my gmail synced before i got in the car.

I am not saying the service is perfect, but you really bashed them for a normal issue with porting. Yes, I will agree it took longer then normal.

Ps this company is condoned by newegg but is not newegg them selves.

Again nothing towards your just sharing my experience.
