No more lag!

Well im 3 days into using LauncherPro, and at this point, I can finally say it looks like the lag for the most part is GONE! Before switching to LP, calls would take the better part of 30 seconds to go through and I was out-texting the phone by atleast 3 words (and I am by no means a fast texter). I dont know if it is launcherpro that has fixed it, or the simple fact that im not using all the rubbish that come pre-loaded (the weather one on the clock i think was the biggest cpu hog) but the phone is running significantly faster. Its even noticeable when switching between screens.

Ill follow up in a few days to report if its still running well, but so far, I would definately recommend giving LauncherPro a shot if you are lagging.

*Edit - I also wanted to add that a few weeks ago, I made a thread about the .6 OTA update fixing my lag issues... that lasted about 3 days before the phone went back to showing its true colors. Im gonna have to contradict myself and say that it did not, by any means, speed the phone up, and as far as I can tell, the root patch was the only apparent thing it did for my phone

Hmm I tried using LauncherPro, and must agree that it DOES seem faster!

However, the only thing is that I still experience heavy lag while trying to type in the native SMS app (the HTC Sense "Messages" app)... am I missing something?

everyone seems to have a different experience when it comes to performance, and everyone has a different perception of what constitutes "lag".

This is the biggest reason not everyone will get the same feeling from the same ROM's, the same kernels, the same clock speeds, the same launchers, even the same theme or app.

Essentially, if you like the way your phone works as it is, leave it if you like, or try something new to see if you might like something different. If you don't like the way your phone is working, then try something else until you find one that suits your needs and your perception of performance

Well I can tell you I have tried both apps, LP and ADW and as it did seem better for the dial lag at the beginning after a few days I got all that lag back, so I do not know what causes this damn lag, but it is shameful that we have to go to these extremes, of trying different apps, some rooting etc.. to solve a simple issue such as dialer lag, you think that Sprint would be tired of peeps calling about the same issue, and get HTC to resolve this issue ASAP, Every time I think I have found the culprit of the lag, it always comes back, some days my phone works great for 2 days and then I try to keep my ritual of what I did for those 2 days, then if comes back like as if I forgot to take my pills. LOL the issue I have is this is a simple thing that a phone should be able to do and they can't get this right, instead they were more concerned to patch up a security hole in stopping peeps to root.

Don, just a few quick questions:

1. How often do you reboot your phone? I reboot my phone every day, and have experienced virtually no lag.
2. You mention your "ritual"...what is your ritual?

3. Are you using any cache cleaners?

4. Do you have any large text threads?

5. How many contacts do you have?

6. Are you using and syncing Facebook on your phone?

I'm not blaming you, or giving HTC/Google/Sprint a free ride on this, just trying to understand why some experience lag, and others don't. I also agree with Tatonka, in that many of us may have different perceptions of the lag, and different expectations.

The OP (chawski) also mentioned things going laggy after 3 days... I would have the same questions.

1. How often do you reboot your phone? I reboot my phone every day, and have experienced virtually no lag. >>> I reboot everyday, actually the ritual is every morning
2. You mention your "ritual"...what is your ritual?>>> Reboot every morning, update profile and then update PRL

3. Are you using any cache cleaners?>>> nope, I am not, I am will to test one out if you have one to suggest!!

4. Do you have any large text threads? no not really>>> I have like six text contact and after a while I delete the whole thread

5. How many contacts do you have?>>> I would say about 100

6. Are you using and syncing Facebook on your phone?>>> nope, do not tweet, facebook or any other like that

And my interpretation of my lag, is when I go to call someone and sometimes it take 10 seconds, sometime 30 seconds, and sometimes a minute to make a call, and sometimes when I think the call is not going through, I then hit it again to find out now it is calling the same person twice

Funny - I found LP to be just a laggy, probably because its a home launcher running over HTC Sense, so two heavy things running.

Come on folks, I think we all know the lag is from a slow, outdated processor running a 2.1 that wasn't built right for it..

I would agree but I have friend that has an EVO and he also at times gets lag, and even if it is the OS they should of been able to do something about it.

I don't remember if you are rooted or not. If so, try CacheCleaner from the market, it is free. If not, go to menu, settings, applications, manage applications... give it a minute or so to load, select menu, then sort by size, then go thru by selecting each and clear cache from the apps... If I remember, the main ones are browser (may be called internet), mail, handcent, messages, and market.

No not rooted, and don't intend to either for now, as I may switch over to the new Samsung Galaxy S when it comes out, I played with a friend of mine who is with AT&T and it was fast and snappy, but I will try to clear some of my cache for the heck of it, thanks

You are welcome! Hope it helps, and let us know.

Nope did not, and remember this is the 3rd phone that sprint has sent, 3 because one they forgot to send the battery as they wanted to replace that, and they said they could not just send me a battery they had to send the whole phone with a battery, lol anyways it is lagging again today

Yeah it seems to be a lot faster, but you only have 3 screens as default although you can add more if you want plus you don't use as many widgets as on the HTC home launcher. Some people have said that the more widgets they add to LP the laggier it gets... I'm not sure... I only have 3 screens. I wish the htc sense widgets would be compatible with launcher pro.

Im using 5 screens and i like it. when i had 7 with sense, I couldnt even come close to finding 7 screens worth of stuff to have. I think youre better off without the sense widgets, as i think they are a large portion of the lag problem. Ive frozen up once, and had maybe one call lag since using LP so I wont say its perfect on our phones, but without a doubt is faster 95% of the time.

Thats interesting I switched to launcho because after teh update i was having so much lag it seemed to help some. Well i saw there was launcherpro plus and i bought it.. Now i get force close all the time. so i went back to phones original theme until they did a update adn was shocked to see i can make a call with NO lag at all.. Now i have only been using this for 2 days now so we will see if it lasts.. So i was wondering did they do some sort of upgrade??

If your talking about HTC the answer to that is no, give it time you will have the lag again, LOL

So after using the phone pretty hard for the better part of a week with LP (free edition), Im pretty pleased. with the exception of the one freeze, its been working pretty darn well. Worlds faster than stock atleast. I think the longest call lag ive had was maybe 3-5 seconds, but id say better than 80% of the time, its instant as it should be
