"the android system is immature" This is my first android phone and let me say...Evo isn't going anywhere no time soon. BUT Coming from the BB tour, Palm pre and iphone 3gs things just ran alot smoother. There's alot of (simple) things that should never be an issue that is. Ex. Text messages wont delete, dailer having issuses, syncing issues, email issues, i can go on and on. Nothing big, its just that these kind of things shouldnt be a problem all at! It should just "Work" I know alot of u are going to say ,Well i dont get those issues. Check the forums, there there. I just hope that Android 2.2 will fix alot of the bugs and battery life and i think Evo will be untouchable!

I don't think people disagreed with him on that point, but with the other stupid things he said in his review, like his problem with the big clock even though you can change it or remove it, and his comment about the lock screen not saying which way to slide.

But the Android system is immature, its only been out in the wild for a couple of years, you can probably say it is in its adolescent stage. Don't forget that Bb and the iPhone have been around longer, the first couple if iPhones didn't even have mms or copy and paste, and they still don't have bluetooth A2DP.

I see this thread getting ugly.. just sayin. In my 6 or so years of using Smart Phones I have yet to have one device that does not require tweaking and have it's own bugs. Yes Android is young but really compare what it has to what Windows Mobile, IOS4, Blackberry current OS (5? Going on 6 and it looks nice), Symbian, etc Android is getting way more right, faster than all the others did. All in my own opinion of course.

All true! That's why i said if they can iron these minor issues out, Evo would near perfect,
Well for me atleast

There are definitely things that could be better. The best part about Android though is that many of them can be addressed by the user when needed. It's good to not always have to wait for the solution.

I don't think any open system will be as slick and easy as a closed system, but I'd rather be able to do more via my own control. And as Android matures and developers start making money, the UI and looks will improve. People won't pay for unsophisticated apps so the paid apps will be the first things that meet and surpass the Apple and Palm OS look and feel.

"Evo isnt going anywhere no time soon" Huh?

I dont mean to sound like a d**k but this thread is funny. You posted this thread twice within 5 minutes. You then have a few double post within this thread. You mention that you cant delete text messages ect. You have dialer issues, email issues, and on and on. You claim that these are legit issues with the android OS. I am seeing a pattern of user error here. The common problem seems to be you.

Again i dont mean to call you out. But with all the double posting of replies and threads combined with the abuse of negatives in the first sentence combined with your numerous issues with simple task such as deleting emails I cant help but to wonder if you are at least partially to blame for some of these issue you are experiencing.

Just a thought.

I love my EVO, but there are some bugs:

Clicking on Messages app brought Facebook a couple of times.

Contact listings that are linked, the ones that show FB status, occasionally the status for 1 contact would be on someone else entirely.

This is all I can remember off the top of my head, I still like Android much better than iOS, which is where I came from.

can't wait for 2.2 to arrive on the EVO.

slightly offtopic - I'd have thanked you for the humor, but I just wanted to see how many minutes we could go where your number of posts actually exceeded your number of thanks.

Oh yeah, Chris Pirillo seems to have opinions, on-topic FTW! (nod to effluent)

Everything has bugs, no device is perfect, a lot of complaints come down to user error, opinion or preferences, others are from actual faulty devices from isolated instances or a build series but not every device or OS is affected. Everyone has an opinion, it's yours that is most important. The grass is always greener on the other side, that is until you get there.

I'm also coming from winmo, and my Android experience has far, far exceeded not only my winmo experience, but my expectations. A lot of it is because of the Evo hardware, but between the app store and programs that work without repeatable bugs and crashes, Android has been a revelation. I get the feeling that longtime and hardcore iPhone users look at Android as unpolished, but as someone whose experience with iOS has been limited to a 2gen itouch, I really don't see the differences to be little more than persnickity hairsplitting (like the infamous rant about the slider going down). I admit that Sense smooths out a lot of the issues, but then again, the Pirillo rant was about the Evo. Just because it's done differently doesn't mean it's wrong, and opinions like Pirillo's don't even take into account the many things Android does right that the iPhone does wrong. And that's why dumb rants like Pirillo's hold little water or credibility with me.

If you took a ledger of all the things Android does right and iPhone does wrong and vice versa, I bet you Android would come out on top.
