Anyone able to get this locking method to work?

I agree, why do you need the slide... if you are using the lock pattern?

i only want to use the lock pattern after say 30 minutes or so. if i'm going to be constantly using the phone in the car or on the go, i don't want to slide everytime. but say if i leave my phone unattended at a party for 30 minutes, i want the assurance that the lock pattern will show up to protect it.

I use an app called Locale. Aside from many many many many many many many other fantastic uses, it will turn on my lock screen whenever I leave my house. But when I am at home (or any other destination that I feel is safe... Which there really aren't any...), I am lock screen free!

However, I still have to go through the slide screen. But now that you mention it, there was an app, back when I had my samsung moment, that bypassed the slide lock screen. I wonder if I can find it, or if it even works with sense ui...

Why do people not like the slide lock? It takes all of what 1/10th of a second?

Because its pointless.

Thanks to this phone having the power button recessed on the top its hard to accidentally turn the phone on, making the slide to unlock not all that important. But it would still be nice to have the actual security lock available so if I lost the phone it would at least take someone 5 minutes to get to my crap.

You're lazy.
Yes, its also why I like using Google voice search for navigation instead of typing the business in.

So you want to have the pattern lock enabled, but only after a set time delay. Other than that you do not want the HTC lock at all, is this right?

Why don't you focus on finding an app that can delay the pattern lock. If successful then you can also simply pull the HTCScreenLock.apk from the system. That's not the exact name, but if my memory suits me correctly, it's pretty close.

It makes complete sense.

This isn't a BetterMost thread. Ease up.

As for helpful stuff...

I dug up the old threads about the locking stuff.

There's an app called "AutoLock" in the market. It claims to allow you to set a non-use time period for when the lockpattern will engage. Edit: "lock delay" claims to do the same thing.

There's an app called "ContactOwner" that allows you to set certain info on your lock screen (in case you lose you phone, whoever picks it up will see whatever contact info you want).

There used to be an app on the market called "Shakeit (beta)" But it's not there anymore. It said that you just shake the phone to unlock the screen... It was free... maybe you can track down a copy off the market?
HOWEVER, it will bypass the lockpattern screen... so you may not be into this if you use the lockpattern.

AH!! Here we go... "Keyguard Disabler". Claims to remove the "swipe to unlock" feature! I dunno if it bypasses the lockpattern or not. But if it doesn't then I could see some real potential combining Keyguard Disabler with Autolock!

C'mon, I just spent 15+ minutes tracking this stuff down. Please hit the thanks button.

hmm, for me, if I left my phone unattended for 30 min at a party, someone browsing it would be the least of my worries.

Thank you for this excellent and helpful response! This really helped me enable my phone to have a screen off then go into a hard lock later!

Some others on this thread would do well to follow your example

Good morning-

This was my post on a different forum:

I recently made the switch from a BlackBerry Curve to the HTC Incredible. One of the "features" of my Curve that I'm having trouble duplicating on the Incredible is this: I was able to set a timeout to lock the phone and a separate timeout to blacken the screen. That is, if the screen went black after 30 seconds of inactivity, the screen wouldn't necessarily lock until 30 minutes of inactivity.

I have increased the screen timeout on my Incredible, but the screen doesn't dim at all. I tried installing the No Lock application, but now I can't find a way to manually lock the phone if necessary.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I downloaded and installed the AutoLock application, enabled it and set the Automatic Lock Delay option to 15 minutes. However, it doesn't look like the screen dims at all. As I mentioned in my above post, is there a way to dim the screen after X seconds, but not have the phone lock until Y minutes?

To set the screen off time:
Menu>Settings>Sound and Display>Screen Timeout>Choose Time

And you know how to use AutoLock.

Thank you :) It sounds like you are doing exactly what Toot4Fun is going for... just curious, did I offer the same solution that you are using?
