who has exchanged their moto droid for a droid eris?

I got my Moto the morning it came out and returned it for the ERIS that afternoon. I just didn't like the slider and it's brick like feel. I almost got the ERIS to start with but the sales guy at Best Buy talked me into getting the MOTO. I liked the screen and turn-by-turn nav, but that was it. I'm happy with ERIS but I just wonder if what's coming out next would have been worth waiting for. I just hope they update the facebook app soon. The one on android pales in comparison to the Iphone version. Sorry to get off subject.

I'm wondering too, once the ota update (2.0) comes out on the 11th, well the phones will not be much (noticeably) different. also I'm trying to "work" the deal so I get another 30 days (plus restocking fee) and get the Dragon mid-month.

I have been thinking the same thing regarding the Dragon/Passion. I like the look of it better and don't care for the slide out keyboard. The only thing that has me thinking that I should keep the Droid is the fact that app developers are having problems writing an app that works on all Android devices. If that is the case, with the Droid kind of being marketed as the flagship Android phone, I just think that developers will cater to the needs of Droid users over Dragon/Passion users. Any thoughts?

After having my Droid for 9 days I got a case of the "the grass is always greener" and exchanged it for an Eris...

After one day with the Eris I went back to Verizon and talked them into exchanging the Eris back for another Droid. (technically they only allow for exchange during the 30 day worry free)

The Eris is a nice phone, but to me the Droid beats it hands down.

First off, I'm not a fan of the Droid physical keyboard. And, I really like the sense UI on the Eris. But that was about the only pluses to the Eris to me.

Battery life of the Eris doesn't even come close to the Droid. Apps open much quicker on the Droid. There is no comparison when it comes to the screens. Droid has greater signal strength inside my house. The call quality is better on the Droid. The Ringer/speakerphone on the Droid is much louder also.

Not saying the Eris isn't a great phone, it blows my old BB storm out of the water. But to me the Motorola Droid is a notch above anything Else Verizon has to offer...

So what your telling me is to say farewell to Verizon and go over to the darkside at att. There's no way I'm gonna keep this phone for the next 2 years. Its slow bulky and whoever designed it screwed up big time. If your saying the Eris is more of the same then I'm out

Slow and bulky? bulky, maybe, but you're trolling if you think the Droid is slow. The only thing slow about it is scrolling certain pages. That is, admittedly, slower than I'd like, but the apps run very, very fast.

i did the opposite, i first bought the eris because it was smaller an sleek..but after about 3 days with it i think it was too small for me...dont get me wrong its a great phone, my girlfriend got one the same day i did an she loves it...but also has tiny hands. that being said i exchanged it for the droid yesterday and im not looking back!

Nope...really happy with the Droid. Played with the Eris a bit at the VZW store and it felt kinda kid like. Like someone above posted...the Droid is Motorola's Flagship, so I think we're going to start seeing more and more apps available that takes advantage of it's awesome display...not to mention FLASH is coming 1'st qtr of 2010 for it. :D

Hey my nanna is selling her old iphone so she can get the new one, if you are looking for a phone that doesn't require a contract? Lemme know.

I did the same, bought the Eris first because of the form factor, Sense UI, and seemed easier to type on. It was a bit laggy at times and but the main reason I traded it in for a Droid is because the Eris battery life was AWFUL. Even with the sms fix it was pretty bad. There is only so much I'm willing to turn off on my 'smartphone' until it defeats the purpose of having one.

A week with the Eris and I couldn't stand it anymore, I really wanted to accept the battery life but oh well. I've got the Moto Droid now and the battery life seems to be alot stronger (2 days now). Virtually no lag compared to the Eris, no matter how much I multitask.

Things I miss from the Eris:
-Sense UI
-better typing experience
-the feel of the phone in hand

Things i don't miss from the Eris:
-crappy battery life (from actually using it)
-no flash on the camera
-lag

Cliffs notes:
OP, I wouldn't recommend taking the Droid back for an HTC Eris.

bulky?? have you actully put it up to the iphone or set it on top. We are talking mm's in difference. It this phone didn't have the keyboard it would probably be thinner. Plus it has a bigger screen and who wants Att crappy service and there slow speeds. I did a speed test on mine and it actually was pulling right over 2.2mb down and 852kbs up.

That's OK I got a free upgrade bro tell granny to hang on to it. As far as the bulkyness goes its not so much a size thing its a design and feel thing. I guess its all preference but I prefer my "iphone killer" to be at least on par with the iphone this phone is far from it

Yeah you got me. My gma isn't really selling hers -- I told her the 3gs wouldn't be much of an upgrade for her. I am selling mine though, but sounds like you're covered.

As far as 'on par,' you are right. A guy at a bar asked me last night which to get his wife, I said iPhone. I don't think anything will come close to iPhone's simplicity and cutesyness for a while, so for almost all non-tech-literate girls (or boys!) I will always recommend iPhone.

"On par" was pretty general though. So if you meant to say 'on par' in terms of simplicity/chic-ness, you are correct. And it sounds like thats what you meant, when your main issue seems to be the 'bulkiness' (or non-smooth nature) of the phone. So for you, no, and I don't see an iPhone killer for you for a long time - apple does a pretty good job of remaining fasionable.

For lots of people though, that like utility customizability, the Droid certainly Does. Sharper screen, multitasking, sharper camera, open development/google voice, free navigation, etc, all add up to a better experience for many accustomed to technology. Not that Everyone good with tech will love the phone, just those who think the lack of the apple logo and intuitive cut-and-paste is worth all the extra features.

TLDR: For you, where fasion is paramount, and for anyone who likes simplicity over complexity (in all forms, a la: a boombox is easier to set up than a full home speaker system), then the iPhone is the way to go. Elsewise, I'd say its pretty "on par."

Seems like your a little worked up over this so for the sake of your blood pressure I wont respond. Ill let you think your little analogies made any sense in comparison to the two phones

P.s. it took me forever just to write that since this thing lags so bad while typing

lulz. Do respond. I'll work on my breathing, hopefully I'll get through it. Anything other than 'u mad?' will do fine. I'm open to hearing stuff I didn't think of. Take however long you need.
