Accessories Tetrax XWay Car Mount

These vent holders confuse me so very much. What happens when it's winter time and you're using one of these with the heat going? Will it not make the phone overheat? I realize you can always switch to the window vent, but some people would much prefer using the vents in front of them.

This mount does look awesome, but I don't have a case on my X yet, and I don't really want to put the disc on my phone and make it have this random bulge on it.

My apology to kwest12, I promised to take some pictures, but after Jubba posted video I thought there is no need for them. If you still want to see pics, let me know.

No worries, the video is sufficient, thanks anyway. I do wish that there was an optional dashboard attachment or a window attachment. Western NY gets effin cold in the winter and I don't want to keep my DX in front of the vent blowing the heat :/

That's my exact concern. This is a really good device for already warm state, but I'm not willing to let me phone sit in front of a vent when I have the heater blasting on it. That doesn't sound very appealing to me at all. :(

Just close the vent then.

Well doesn't this mount kinda need the vent to be open? I know certain vents can be sealed without closing the physical shutters, but a lot can't be. Also, that kinda doesn't warm up the car as quickly which isn't something that we should have to sacrifice. The point of having a mount is convenience: you shouldn't have to make compromises.

There is nothing that intrinsically draws me to one specific mount over another. Therefore, even though the holding system seems to be a good one, if there is no window or dashboard-top mount then I'll simply move on to the next product. It may take a little patience but I'm sure I'll find one more suited to my needs.

However, if someone does happen to find a window mount for this, please be sure to post it!

Take a look at posts #370 and #377 in that tread:

http://androidforums.com/accessories-incredible/68667-car-dock-discussion-thread-8.html

I tried that setup myself and it worked pretty good

That setup is extremely intriguing: let me see if I understand though.

You bought a Soundgate M2 and an Tetrax XWAY and combined them to make a dash mountable XWAY?

The concept becomes even more interesting b/c of the post mentioning paying only $5 for each and $5 for shipping from wiredforless.com.

Just to save us time can you possibly go over how easy these two are to combine?

The only issue I have with these dash mountable ones are that you can't take them to a different car (easily). A window suction-cup type one would allow that. I wonder if there is a version of the Soundgate (or other brand) that would have the window suction instead of the dash mount....

Yes, sir, you got it right. In fact, I bought M2 from wiredforless.com using "woot" coupon. Combine those two was as easy as mount Tetrax on a vent. Pictures in Incredible forum pretty detailed.
You also absolutely correct, that transfer this combo from car to car nearly impossible.
So, instead of M2 you might want to get something like that:
Magellan Roadmate 3000 6000 Cradle & Windshield Mnt OEM - eBay (item 290442367531 end time Aug-04-10 18:48:55 PDT)

Take it apart, and use just suction cup with bolt, trough away mount for GPS.

Nice find! I actually have that holder (or one very very similar) for an old Magellan device... unfortunately it's in use by someone else still (LOL) but I can at least take a look at to see if I'd be able to disassemble it and use it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I got my Tetra X in the mail a couple of days ago, and have been using it since. No problems with holding the phone securely, and the holder itself sits on the vent very tightly.

Magnetic attachment also works perfectly with DX shape: because of the thicker camera end, attachment does not protrude far enough to make the phone roll when you put it on the table.

Guys, where do you buy your XWay? The link above for ThinkGeek is for a standard Tetrax ($25 + $6 shipping). I called them up and they are out of XWay which they sell for $35 + $6 shipping. Kind of pricey. eBay has a seller in FL, $35 + $5 shipping. The thread about SoundGate M2 mentioned ONLY buying M2 for $5 (with "woot" discount) + $5 for shipping. XWay is not $5, but rather $35 + shipping. Also, SoundGate was acquired by Kicker now its discontinued (SoundGate | KICKER). I guess that explains a cheap price (eBay and Amazon also sells them for under $10 shipped).

I'm leaning more toward XWay, but the cheapest I've seen was $40 shipped, and its a little pricey considering other options or anything else upcoming. What do you guys think?
