Root ROM help

Hello rooters

I am looking to root my eris using universal root for dummies, but haven't done so yet. My main reason for waiting is that i have not decided on a ROM to flash initially. I will probably experiment some with different ROMs but would like to flash a solid reliable one that meets my needs to begin with and then experiment more after i become accustomed to the whole root scene.

My basic requirements are as follows:

1. Sense is not necessary (I don't use it's launcher or any of its main features. I currently run ADW.Launcher. I'm not opposed to SENSE, but I wouldn't use it so I don't figure i need it)
2. SMS/MMS must work
3. Auto-Syncing of gmail must work
4. Overclocking (i don't want to do anything outrageous, probably just up to 710 or so)
5. A2SD
6. Wireless tether
7. Regular, Non-HTC Lockscreen (I prefer one that isn't transparent)
8. Facebook contacts sync
9. Better dialer than stock (lag is killing me)
10. Plenty of room for me to customize on my own

If i think of anything else i will post those as well

so far i have been looking at xtr and tainted vanilla off xda, but i'm looking for other suggestions, as well as everyones thoughts on these roms

Once rooted you don't HAVE to flash a new rom, you can keep your now-rooted phone looking just like it always has, until you find the perfect rom to flash, until you find the perfect rom to flash, until you find the perfect rom to flash, until you find the perfect rom to flash (etc etc ad nauseum). Yep, once you start flashing you won't stop for a while...

i rooted about 2 weeks ago and i have had to make myself stay on ZENexp until i finish with my paper because it was taking up way to much time to flash new roms and get them set up only to decide i want to try another one.

ZENexp meets all requests except the regular lock screen ... it has a modified lock screen that is a straight bar that has all the stuff the sense one does basically just a straight across version of it... also it is opaque. i personally dont like the transparent lockscreen trend happening now. it seems like all the roms have it.

I rooted on Sunday, 3 days and 3 roms later I'm using xtrROM3.0.3. The best I've found (so far). It's pretty slim so it leaves plenty of room for apps, no need for A2SD but it comes with an A2SD add on if you want it. Also meets the other options you want.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I just rooted tonight using EU1's Universal Root Guide and the additional instructions from scary alien (http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-eris/132652-rooting-question.html#post1229966). I'm gonna work with this for a while then start flashing ROMs so please keep this thread alive so that myself as well as others new to root can gain some knowledge from those with more experience.
