Is Rooting A Droid Worth The Risk

what are the risks from rooting also is it worth the risk,


also i cant find a tut for rooting lg optimus will i just get a tut on rooting whatever firmware i have

Depends on who you ask. Worth is always in the eye of the beholder. I'd say yes. You need to sort it out for yourself.

I Rooted my phone for one reason only... i was really really really curious about the process. it seams fairly safe as long as you READ EVERYTHING you can get your hands on BEFORE doing it.

usually when people go wrong with modding ANY device its because the didn't prepare for the process

Root benefits that I use:
Teathering (making your phone work like a mobile broadband dongle)

Apps2SD (although i am not sure this is working properly, needs some kind of interface)

De-branding (no more stupid Planet-3 link i cant delete or silly 3 logo on boot up)

SU privileges - Got some cool widgets that do things with reboot that i can hardly fathom, all useful though, and a side effect of super user access.

Mine has only been rooted a few days so i can not really tell you any more but i am sure its only going to get better from here

all that said, it COULD do wrong so if you do it, then make sure you have a better reason that curiosity

Yes. I rooted for speed, for tethering, for terminal, for god and my country.

I got a nice rom, with a ULV kernal so I can down clock my processor even more. Better battery life. And over clock for better speed.

Would you care to elaborate on some of those widgets? I've been looking for some useful widgets lately for my rooted droid and I don't really know where to start. Thanks

Hello everyone! i just want to share my experience about rooting an android...
I have samsung galaxy ace and im really really curious about the process of rooting an android, I've check what are the advantages/disadvantages of a rooted android as well. since the galaxy ace have a very small internal memory, i should transfer some apps to the sd card so that i will have memory back, "but its not possible" for unrooted phone. so because im running out of memory i decided to root my phone using oneclick, oneclick is design for nexus S but since there's no available program for rooting my galaxy ace, i tried it and it works! i rooted my android 2.2.1, after that i download apps2sd and move2sd apps and "rom manager" which is not compatible to my galaxy ace they said.. but it works again! because of that 3 apps i transferred successfully my apps to the sd card and i gain more memory! after a couple of days, i found a apps to the android market named startup manager, i got curious again and i download it.. i install it and i disable some unnecessary apps in startup, after that i found out that my phone was running slowly.. i decided to unistall it! after i done it, MY phone hang for unknown reason... i decided to reboot it, after i switch it off... I CANT OPEN MY PHONE AGAIN.... i brick my phone!!!!!!!!!!!

I've rooted my phone (Incredible) and found it interesting to say the least. I needed to return the original phone after experiencing numerous random reboots (I unrooted the the phone and did a factory reset) and now I've just kept the refurb phone I received at factory specs. I just don't see the need to root again. I do have some root apps that I can't use anymore but that's okay. I don't miss my phone being rooted at the moment.

Unless you are on the same level of expertise as the guys who develop rooting methods for new phone models, don't try it until you have instructions for your exact model.

The risks are that you void the warranty, there is a small chance of bricking the phone, you will need to spend a week or two intensively reading everything you can find on the subject, and it will almost certainly be nervewracking the first time.

Whether it's worth it, only you can decide. If you're not sure, wait.

(That said, I have found it to be most definitely worth it! Although flashoholicism certainly solves the excess spare time problem...)

Hello. Sorry to hear that happened to your phone, but don't give up yet! I'm not familiar with your phone, so I can't be sure, but those kinds of things can usually be fixed. Have you tried asking in your phones forum? Try using the search bar for something like "flashing the samsung galaxy ace back to stock" or google the same thing with or without android forums in the search title. Good luck getting your android working again!
