Accessories Ok, this is getting old...iphone related

Man these Iphone people got it pretty freaking good. There are already triple the accessories for the iphone4 than the incredible, and the incredible came out a full month before. I have been waiting for an otterbox case and was just on there to check again and guess what, the iphoners got one now for the iphone 4. My blood is boiling. Will there ever be a time that manufacturers stop treating iphone that here the only game in town that matters, geez:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I paid good money for this phone and sick of it being the red headed step child vs the messiah that is Iphone

From a marketing standpoint it makes sense. IPhone people from my experience spend way more on accessories. Why is beyond me, I don't want to be locked into one device or brand but whatever.

This would also go for us though. I know from myself, if there were accessories like there are for iphone for the inc, I would be buying like crazy. Too many brain washed iphonians out there. At least seidio didn't screw us.

Sarcasm?

has to be, because they're the ones who advertised their Innocase II as being compatible with an upcoming dock, then scrapped the dock and changed the wording of their Innocase after selling many of them. I'd have bought the Active instead knowing that it had no dock...

I must admit I'm frustrated too with the lack of accessories for this phone...especially when I'm starting to see them randomly in public and I have 10+ coworkers with DInc's now...

it's kinda sad when people with crappy BB storms have great desktop docks and our sweet phones are sitting on paperclips and legos. where is the Capitalism America?? someone step it up and make some accessories for HTC phones already!

IMO, this is another side effect of the fragmentation in the Android marketplace. To the average consumer, what is the difference between the Incredible, Droid X, Nexus 1, EVO, keyboardless Samsung Galaxy S models and all other touch screen Android phones? Screen size and a bit of styling, that's about it.

Until Google introduces some sort of universal docking standard that can be built into all Android phones (which they have no plans to, AFAIK, especially since I just made it up :D ), Android phones will have their lunch eaten by the iPhone in the accessories world.

This is one area in which Apple has their market absolutely nailed down and Google seems to have no clue or desire to compete. I would LOVE to see the iPhone connector adopted as a universal standard, along with the software and protocols to allow Android devices to work with the kajillion iPhone docks, stereo interfaces, etc... that are out there. I have no idea if that is even possible, but it would do wonders for Android adoption, IMO.

Android devices are, almost by definition, orphans once they're about a month old.

I'm gonna have to agree with you here. I'm placing an order for a new car. The car comes with an iPhone dock connector that allows the phone to be hidden in my console and EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING is controlled thru the navigation screen and steering wheel controls. It is very clean. No USB cord for charging and no headphone-rca audio cable.

If I am going to spend $50-$80K for a new car and it comes with an iPhone connector for free, you bet that is compelling.

If you are spending that much for a car, then you can afford to customize it for the phone you want not the phone they tell you to have.

Car companies cater to what is the most popular device is out there.
Also, there are no Android APIs for remote media control. There are no standards among the Android phones so why even bother.

With the Incredible (or any Android phone),

you have to 1) plug in a usb charging cable, 2) plug i an audio cable

and you still can't control the phone from because, again, there is no API or
method to do so. So you end up getting a cradle or mount that makes it look ungainly and simply "ugly" in the car. It looks like a rat's nest or octopuss with a bunch of wires all over the place.

The iPhone (and the Zune/upcoming Window 7), you can hide the device in the center console armrest (out of sight and hidden from possible thieves) and the car looks clean and stock.

I much prefer that. Especially when I have luxury car. Why "ghetto-fy" it with a bunch of dangling wires a windshield or cupholder mount?

Actually, Android phones and the Incredible in particular work with car stereos that have a bluetooth interface. You can control the music from the radio console/steering wheel, etc (plus the music sounds better than an audio cable).

You can't even buy an ExtUSB cable that would let you knock those connections down to one, since the Incredible's "USB" port also supports audio and video out (and mic in, IIRC).

IMO, HTC is in a perfect position to drive this kind of development, to push out a standard dock/connector, to influence Google to write the APIs, and take Android to the next level. I really believe that, until they do, Android will play second fiddle to i* devices in the minds of consumers.

In theory possible. Can you care to show me some examples. Do they work with all the different music apps like Doubletwists, MixZing, stock HTC?

Also, I assume this is for aftermarket sound systems like some of the Eclipse/Pioneer I've seen. But none of them have steering wheel control via bluetooth. Just audio via bluetooth.

Also, I am talking about stock OEM car stereos: specifically - Audi, Porsche, BMW, Jaguar. They don't have what you are talking about.

BMW is coming out with an iPhone system that shows text-messages, read emails all from the nav screen. That is what I call tight integration. Furthermore, you have your contacts transferred to the car's phone addressbook. Does android devices have anything like this?

Furthermore, The iPhone is a line-out using the dock, It is not like a headphone jack where the sound level's are not regulated. No way bluetooth will sound as good as line-out.

Can't help you with the stock radios, I have no idea about any of them. Luxury cars aren't worth a damn unless you have self-esteem issues IMO.

However, people on this very forum have talked about their head units (so probably aftermarket) fully integrating with their Incredibles. Bluetooth, being completely digital, apparently sounds fantastic in these setups. Try searching the forums.

If this is a deal breaker for you, perhaps you should simply consider the iPhone, no?

Nice try at an ad hominem.

Maybe, well just maybe, some people have good enough jobs where their company leases them a new car every 2 years.

Or maybe, just maybe, they happen to have a wife who runs her own business and can do a section 179 tax write-off; enjoying her luxury vehicle instead of giving it to Uncle Sam.

Ever think about that?

Again, nice try at an ad hominem.

I have no problem with the iPhone... i find comparing it to HTC Incrediable to be a non-issue, i would not take the iPhone with At&t for free if i had a choice between both, Verizon Rules. The iPhone on its own is a cool phone, i like it, but now with the antenna problem and having at&t as the carrier, it has to be a nightmare. My cousin's friend got the iPhone, the first 9 calls he made... 7 were drop, he returned it (NY).

I don't get too wrapped up in the whole iPhone-Android thing, If your happy with your iPhone... enjoy. My Incredible runs like a fine tuned Ferrari, and that's all that matters. Living well is the sweetest revenge.

My ad hominem was better than your ad hominem.

Don't you have to be at the gym in 26 minutes?
