THIS is my issue with Andorid...

Not to pick on this particular person's homescreen, he didn't design the apps...

This is a PERFECT example of what I mean when I say that Andorid looks cheap and amateurish. Why the hell is "Multimedia" cut off? And it doesn't scroll either, thats just how it looks. And see the little green guy in the status bar? Why the hell is it so low res? That looks like complete ass. Looks so pieced together, no consistency or flow, it's like a kid's dirty bedroom with crap thrown all over the place.

Well considering the fact that every single thing on that home screen is CUSTOM and a third party application or folder then I'd say yes someone needs to find some other stuff...

The little green guy is from Advanced Task Cleaner 2.0...perhaps talk to the author about a higher res icon?

I'm assuming Multimedia is from a folder placed on the desktop, perhaps call it Media, but I guess not being able to display the entire title could be an issue if you have to have something that has a large title..perhaps you need to check system font size? I bet that could play a factor...

finally I guess if you dont like that layout, since that entire layout is custom...you could do it differently. there are alot of posts in the separate phone forums that have "show your screen" posts and many of them have VERY cool looking home screens...perhaps this one is not to your liking, but I wouldnt blame android for someone not coming up with a layout that you like since this is all custom...

Thats the thing though...there need to be more guidelines so things like that don't happen. Talking to the developer to get a high res icon? Really? How about Android not allowing icons unless they are a min. resolution?
You ever think that maybe he likes his screen like that? Everyone has different tastes. I prefer LESS guidelines and strictness which allows me to customize my phone the way I see fit.

I would if they could make a damn phone that actually made phone calls!

They do. My iPhone 4 performs just as well making calls as my Captivate does. It actually holds a signal better (doesn't fluctuate). But, it's boring.

Don't believe all the hype about the iPhone not being good as a phone. That's been spread by people who are ignorant.

just as many who are ignorant spread android not being a decent OS...I think we have two very nice flavors of ice cream...but I prefer vanilla to double chocolate crunch with cinnamon crusted walnuts...

that is my analogy and i'm sticking to it....mmm ice cream....

Oh no...I'm not going by the hype, I have an iPhone 4 on my desk right now and have had it since launch day. I've wanted to throw it at a wall almost every day.

There wasn't a day that I didn't have a dropped call or a call that wouldn't go through...I would dial, but it would just sit there. It didn't have any signal at the Fry's Food on the corner, it didn't have a signal at the gym. With the Captivate...I have not dropped even ONE call in the last 4 days, all my calls have gone through, it works at the Frys, it works at the gym...it works everywhere so far.

And then there is the whole proximity sensor issue...I can maybe make 1 out of 5 calls that it doesn't mess up in some way...either putting people on speaker phone, mute, hanging up on them, making a three way call...or a combination of them all. It was so frustrating.

If I didn't have those issues, I would still be using the iPhone, as you can tell, I much prefer their UI.

Like said before you are looking at an 480x800 image on a computer screen downsize the image by at least half and it looks completely different as it is only being displayed on a 4" screen on the phones. ATK guy does not look blurry or low rez or anything on the phones and even in that screen shot it does not look bad. Like the said before other then different android phones looking different from each other depending on the brands UI overlay the OS is the basicly the same and functions the same. Android is about customization and making it how YOU want and what is best for you. Like said before you want something plain with no options get an iPhone 3GS and be done with it no worries after that. And wow it doesn't display the full word of Multimedia. It has restrictions to how much space it can use for icon if i am not mistaken or how much it can display label wise, computers are exactly the same way they default only display so much until clicked on. Scrolling... well that I guess could be done but who would want it?? Waste of system resource and battery to scroll. It is suppose to function for the user for the person who made it I am sure it flows perfect for them.

I disagree 100%, I had a iP4 and it was the worst "phone" I've ever had. The reception issue is not the only problem with the phone. My Captivate has much better reception than the iP4 had, even better than my 3gs. I don't mean just the bars, I'm talking actual data and having a signal.
There are advantages to both phones. The iphone has a working GPS and has a good program for syncing media. With the Captivate I've tried doubletwist, Kies, Itunes agent, none of them work flawlessly and does it all.

I don't think I'm ignorant (not always ;))

I have/had the opposite experience. My iPhone 4 is much better at being a phone and at grabbing a signal than my 3GS or 3G ever were. The only phone better at holding onto calls was a toss up between my v3xx and v9 Razrs.

Guidelines? From Steve Jobs? The guy obviously configured the screen the way he wanted and apparently he likes it more than what he would get in any other way (including with iPhone). Is not that the only thing that matters?

And yes, it's easy to get a consistent interface like iPhone - just use TouchWiz (which BTW I do use)

i cant say how anyone that has used android can like the iphone better the customization is insane the iphone is so boring

check this out you like better?

Tell me that doesn't crush any iphone you have ever seen

Yea, it crushes it...in a bad kind of way. I don't need customizing if it's done the right way out of the box. I use stock wallpapers...on my phones, computer...I like clean, simple, and organized...no crazy colors, fonts, etc.

This is what my Captivate looks like right now to give you an idea...

Clearly android could be skinned to look prettier. I personally care alot more how my phone works, than how it looks. I'm using android because I can make it work the way I need it to w/o running up against artificial ceilings, walls, etc. If I get it fully configured and doing everything I want it to (doubtless to occur at some point, I've only had it a few days), and the looks of it bug me, I'll have a ton of options to fix that too.

I like it, but it needs to be a iPhone 4 and showing No Service in the signal area or _____ :D

What did you use to get the temp in the top bar?

I returned my iphone 4 and now have the Captivate.
I returned to get the white iphone...next day they anounced another delay.
All iphones were sold out so Im trying the Captivate and will see if I keep it at the end of the 30 days.

My iphone 4 got better reception than 3GS and Captivate.
No dropped calls but did have proximity sensor issue.
Some reset of settings did help that issue although I use headset 90% of time.

I like the ass in the SMS...how is that done and does it take like 4 hours to do?
