Switching between 3g & WiFi

Is there a way that I can set up so that 3g comes on when wifi is not being used? I have Tasker but can't seem to work out how to configure it to do so.

I think you may be trying to do something that your phone does already....

I have 3G on during the day at work and turn on Wi-Fi when I get home. The Wi-Fi icon appears, and the 3G icon vanishes. While the Wi-Fi is connected, the phone transmits exactly zero data over 3G (confirmed by checking my 3G Watchdog app). When I move out of Wi-Fi range the 3G starts working again.

I can concur with this. Just leave both your Wi-Fi and 3g switched on and it will switch when necessary. It will even notify you in the drag down bar if there are Wi-Fi transmitters in the area while you are using 3G.
