I have my phone rooted with toast's i removes some bloatware so i know its rooted properly. i download wireless tether for rooted phone. when i click start tether it says. unable to start tethering, please try again.

any ideas

ps - it turns the wifi off when i hit start tethering

Having root is a two part equation. First is establishing root (sounds like you have done). Second is installing a ROM that allows you to take advantage of root. Here is a link to the stock ROM with Super User access:

[ROM] Stock RUU 1.32.651.1 | Update.zip Format - xda-developers

Note: this is just a stock ROM with Superuser access. You can get other ROMs that can customize your phone to fit your individual taste.

Well, since he got help I was wondering if you guys can help me! I dont get any errors, but when I connect to my wireless tether and try to browse, nothing happens. Like I load espn and my UP counter goes up little by little like data is being transfered but nothing happens on the other side. Im trying to use an iPad to connect.

my only problem is the speed that I get while tethering. I can be getting 1.7 on my phone using 3G, and cant break 250k while tethering. I have re-installed, rebooted, and tried everything. this happens at all times in all locations. it's so useless that I would gladly pay the extra $30 if I could get the htc app to install because that gives almost 1to1 speeds while tethering.

update:

I stand corrected, I am getting the exct same speed when tethering now....must have been fixed in one of the previous nightlies. sswwweeeeetttt

I have rooted my phone with unrevoked and I downloaded the wireless tether app. I can get into it and I have superuser access, however nothing can connect to it. Is there a walkthrough that shows me how to set up devices that can connect to it? When I go to the Connected/Authorized Clients screen, never shows anything. HELP!!!

If anybody gets the message "Unable to start tethering. Please try again!" Do this:

Open the Wireless Tether app.

Press the menu button on the phone

Press Setup

Press the menu button on the phone again

PRess (Re)-Install binaries/configs

Wifi Tether now works.

Come on now! Hit that thanks button! This is good sh*t!

Tried this multiple times and we're getting the same message. Any other suggestions? We've had good connections recently and this is the first time we've had this message pop up.
