Everything I'v read about gorilla glass implies that its hellah scratch resistant. We're going screen naked!

Hate to burst everyones bubble but last night I had mine on my lap in my car. when I hopped out of the car it fell into the gravel. At first I thought there was just a teeny tiny nick on the back but now in the light of day I see there is also a nick in my "Gorilla glass" screen... not to mention when I look closely I can see tiny little scratches on the screen that are pretty prominant and were there before I dropped it.Now none of this would bother me except I've only had this phone for two weeks and other than my drop last night I've treated it like a baby and kept it in my pocket (live in PA no sand) and I could see those little scratches all over it before the drop. The point is if I've been babying this phone for two weeks and it still got a bunch of tiny little scratches here and there what is my awesome HD GORILLA GLASS screen going to look like in 6 months?I think Gorrilla glass is overhyped and full of shit. I'm kinda pissed because had I known Gorilla glass was bullshit I would have used a screen protector from day one but instead I have to worry about paying $25 to cover my fron screen and the camera screen. The reason I say I have to pay $25 is because I looked on ebay for the $1-$2 screen protectors and people are saying they are junk. Ok so I looked at Zagg and Ghost Armor and I can either get the $10-15 front screen only protector. Or I can pay $20-25 for full body but will only use screens on the glass parts. If anyone knows an inexpensive quality screen cover that I can use on the camera and front screen it would be appreciated.

There is a big difference between scratch resistant and scratch proof, scratch resistant is still going to scratch, it's just going to take a little longer than regular glass. I'm not saying what happened doesn't suck but why anyone would go without a screen protector on a $500 phone is beyond me. I buy the 5 pack of protectors, that you cut to fit your screen, for $6.50 at Walmart and they do their job.

Are the small scratches where you tend to swipe your finger most?

Gorilla glass is scratch resistant, not scratch proof. They never claimed it was so. It baffles my mind why folks are surprised when their "naked" screens scratch. Oh well. Sorry about your screen.

+1

But come on, you dropped it on rocks! Its going to scratch but try not to pay attention to them and you will forget about them.

Are you on your cell phone when posting? I find that to be the case when I am on my cell.

Nope. I'm on my work computer.
My Voyagers screen has been naked for a year and a half. No scrapes, no scratches, no nicks.

Yep same here and that was a what looked to be a crappy screen that you would think would be scuff happy in your pocket. BTW my IPOD TOUCH had nicks and scratches in it after a year. You could feel the scratches with your nails.

I PM'd you a discount code for Zagg.

All good points made here. True it is cratch resistant and not scratch proof but my point is until last night I hadn't laid it on its face, dropped it, or treated it less than I would a premature baby. And in two weeks I see all these tiny little scratches. I worry that if that happens in 2 weeks what are the glass parts going to look like in 6 months? Not to mention how bad will my camera screen get?

I just took pictures of my husband's Droid and noticed it did have some scratches. I never noticed them before because with the phone on, you can't see a thing. It's actually pretty minor for being 6 months old and him always pocketing it with no screen protector.

I have a screen protector coming for my X because I'm just picky like that, but I was pretty impressed with his Droid's screen. He's not that easy on his phones.

Quoted for truth.

Sorry to hear about your screen though, that sucks :( My wife recently discovered that her nail file (in her purse) scratches the SHAT out of her phone. Fortunately, she DOES have a protective screen on it. If only you could see how badly she scratched the screen protector up in only a few days

ok im here to help kaoss..hear me out on how to get rid of these scratches. put your phone on a soft flat surface probably out back on the grass. then load that gun and aim at the screen of the X and pump a couple rounds into that beast then take it to Verizon Tech Support and say " well my screen seems to be malfunctioning " i think its bricked or sumthing. then you get replacement cell and go to sgpstore.com and get a steinheil crystal clear for 12.99. and there you have it. insurance job that thing! i would sit in a corner and rock back n forth shaking if my X had a light scratch anywhere on it. haha
