Put my EVO to work today and I was amazed.

So today I had to make a delivery to a contractor across town. Typed the address into Google navigation and off I went. Since my satellite radio in my truck sounds like arse I have been using my EVO by plugging my phone into my stereo via a monster cable from the headphone jack to the input. Not only did my EVO stream music flawlessly and sound 10x better then sirius, this phone didn't miss a beat (sorry for the pun). Navigation would come over the stereo and tell me which way to turn and then resume with the music. I would get an occasional text message and email (of course I didnt respond to these messages since it illegal here to text and drive ). I was amazed at the multi tasking this phone offers.

Yeah, and when you get a call, it rings through the stereo and automatically answers in speaker-phone. No need for hands! Except to touch "answer."

Unless you're at a full stop at a light/stop sign, then you WILL get into an accident sooner, rather than later. When it happens, I just hope you don't hurt someone else.

Maybe you did, but you just didn't see the near-accident b/c the other driver was already in the ditch by the time you looked up from the phone

Seriously though, these laws are not made and put into place b/c every single driver is a problem. They are put into place because many or most drivers are incapable of multitasking (depending on where you are driving, the NEED for attention on the road is different, ex. open freeway vs Raleigh NC traffic), and the costs associated with mistakes while texting are FAR greater than implementing/enforcing the law.

And even if many people haven't had near-accidents, I can't tell you how many times over the past two years that I have had to lay down on my car horn because the light turned green and the person in front of me just sat there.... and may have never looked up on their own!

In fact, 4 days ago that happened when trying to make a left turn at a light. The woman in the car in front of me (she was about 4or5 cars back) had her head down. The light turned green and the cars all pulled out from in front of her, and she didn't move... So I laid on the horn, then after a 2-3 second delay she hits the gas and runs straight out through the yellow light while flipping ME off!! I'm just left there thinking WTF!? The funny thing is, I think I remember seeing something like that in a movie... I think it was a Bruce Willis flick.

Anyways, hands and eyes free would be pretty sweet if it were a little more practical, but you just can't trust anyone else when it comes to regular texting and driving. Personally, I'm happy to give up texting while driving if it means that, if the woman in front of me had been caught, she would have been punished to the equivalent of a DUI. But I'm still looking into practical hands free and TTS and STT... though the best I have found is an app that does TTS (so I immediately get the message) and sends an auto-response letting the other person know that I am driving and if they need me to respond that they can call.

I was using Sprint Navigation in one city (Kansas City), but when driving in another city (Orlando), I noticed that the Sprint server was laggy and even timed out, so I switched to google navigation and it worked perfectly. It is so nice to have options when it comes to reliable, quality navigation on a phone!

That said, when I was playing music and using Google Navigation at the same time, I would get an occasional phone call. The EVO did not like that and would usually reset in the middle of the call.

I did the same thing last Tuesday. Went to the airport to pick someone up. I fired up navigation. I knew it would pick a different route then what I wanted to go (I prefer the tollway since traffic would be rough on the highway) and I wanted to find out how it handles it. I was surprised / happy to find she did not keep telling me to turn around. Instead, Evo continues to find a new route. As I got closer to the direction I would take, Evo figured it out and continued on the path I had chosen. That's nice!

YES THAT'S IT! Thank you, that has been bugging the crap out of me for days!!! Honestly, after laying on the horn for a few seconds and the entire line of traffic had cleared out from in front of her, I had come to accept that I was not going to make the light and wasn't really ticked off about it... what pissed me off was that she did make the light.

FYI, ever pull up to a stop light and see the person behind you with their head down texting? I like to turn around and stare at them... they always look a little startled when they look up and see me glaring like a grade A creep. And sometimes I flip them off for good measure.

even though you think your a pro texting and driving for 10 years...it still means your not 100% focused on the street im glad a few broken ribs was the only injuries in my wreck

If you think you can look at a phone and type a message while still paying adequate attention to what's going on around you, then you have no freakin' clue what your limits are. You may get away with it for 20 years, until some kid on a bicycle comes riding out of a parking lot or driveway and you're just that 1/2 second too late noticing her.

Grow up before you kill someone.There's no text message that's so important it can't wait until a traffic light, or you get where you're going. Unless you're name is Obama, that is.

Dam that sucks, but yea I was with my mom a few years ago, we were sitting at a red light, and some chick rear ended us. Her(moms) car was totaled. Turns out the chick was texting while driving. Same goes with messing with the radio, she got rear ended as well at the same stop light, this time some dude, at 5 am. Car wasn't totaled though. Seriously every one thinks they are cool and pro's at doing it. I wish it was illegal everywhere as well. It's just a text message, its not important while ur driving.

I live in California and it is illegal here as well, but I see a lot of people still talking and texting while driving and doing stupid dangerous shit.
