Nandroid? ROM Manager? Titanium Backup? Other?

I need some clarification on backups as there seems to be several options out there. This is assuming you are rooted with a custom ROM and Recovery installed.

I ask because I have installed numerous ROMs, Software versions, and Radio's etc etc, and I never seem to be able to get my phone back to how it was without manually installing each app, all the settings, software and radios, etc.

Which one of these (or others) is best to use if you want to quickly get your phone back to the way it was before you made a change? Which one is most complete and/or thorough? Do they backup things like Radio, Wimax, and Software versions?

Example, say I install a ROM like Fresh 1.0.1 and set up my phone the way I want. Then decide to update the Kernel, Radio or Wimax. And for whatever reason I want to install back to the Fresh 1.0.1 ROM before I made any changes. What would be the best option?

Currently I have the phone setup how I want it. But like most of you I still want to mess around with it, especially with a lot of the Froyo stuff becoming available. Id like to back it up the right way this time and be able to quickly and easily restore it if needed.

I experienced this my first 2-3 weeks as well. man what a pain in the ass huh! once rooted i flopped over to rom manager and cant access all the roms available everywhere...but most are available and have been able to conduct backups, per custom rom, and sabe them on sd and recover at will. keep at it. it tools me a few nights of reboots and recover to get it where i wanted it..once you get familiar with rom manager i would be surprised if you dont use it every other day, i do.

Nandroid is a most perform b4 u flash any Rom,this will backup everything on your phone so if u don't like the rom that u flashed u can always go back to the one had and everything will be restored for u so don't have to do everything u mentioned above by hand.
I don't use Rom Manager so I'm not aware of this app does.

Titanium backup lets u backup,restore or uninstall your apps and the data u have saved in them such as settings and stuff like that.

That's a basic rundown of that they do.

so running a nand backup from custom recovery like Clockwork or Amon should backup my entire phone and be able to be restored to its current state? I swear Ive done numerous nands before but dont seem to have them in my nandroid folder. does doing a nand backup erase previous nand backups in the nandroid folder?

Yes it will restore your phone to the current state. No, previous backups are not erased.

I am rooted with simple root OTA and what program do you use to make a nandroid back up?

Did you flash a custom recovery? If not, you should do so (I believe its under the extras tab in Simple Root.) After doing so, boot into recovery and perform a nandroid backup. No app required

Yes it will restore your phone to the current state. No, previous backups are not erased.

Hmmm well I know for a fact that I have done numerous nand back ups and yet only one is showing in the nandroid folder. maybe Ill mess around with it today to see whats going on.

I did notice that this happened when I switched from Clockwork to RA but it hasn't happened since. I currently have 3 nands showing.

I did a quick test. Even though it says "backup complete!" I dont think its completing. See attached pic and the text above where it says "backup complete". Any idea how to correct this? It seems after all this time it wasnt actually completing the backups which is why Im only showing 1 backup from awhile ago in the nandroid folder.

It might be a memory issue because I see that your SD card is almost full... So the one nand backup that you have does not have today's date in the md5?

I've had problems with MyBackup Pro not doing scheduled backups. I didn't notice until my phone crashed and I went to restore my data.

It was silly of me for not checking the backups really.

Based on your screenshot, you are using clockworkmod. The nandroid backups are stored on your SD card in a folder called clockwordmod/backup. If you are doing the backup directly from the recovery image, it will automatically put your backup in a folder with the timestamp in the folder name so you can identify when you did the backup. If you are doing it from ROM Manager, it will give you the choice to name the folder to whatever you want. Either way, when you browse your SD card, you can rename your nandroid folders. Later, when you want to restore, go to that same location.

check your SD card for /clockworkmod/backup
