Blur on the X not as bad as some say.

So I went from the DINC to the X. I gotta say. Blur is not that bad. I dont see any need right now to switch to launcher pro. After hearing so many complaints about Moto stock UI, I was skeptical. But I like it so far!

I don't know how much merit my opinion has on this subject because the X is my first smartphone, but I really like the interface as well. I hear a lot of crap spoken about it, but I don't find much wrong with it aside from some minor personal gripes. It's easy to use, and looks good too.

I don't think its so much people 'don't like' BLUR. It's just that they like LP a little better. Its a little more fluid, and for what its worth - responsive. I too like some of the aspects of BLUR (re-sizable widgets, etc.).

Also that Dock on LP is nice, with the ability to customize it with your desired apps and what-not. I've tailored mine to mimic Froyo, which is kind of cool.

BTW - I think someone mentioned this already, but the BLUR dock is kind of redundant seeing as it is the Dialer, Launcher, and Contacts. The Dialer itself has access indirect access to the Contacts, so those two on the Dock are kind of redundant.

I like my Droid X, but Sense is definitely better. Motorola's interface design team needs to be replaced with some people who actually know how to design an interface.

It is not horrible, but definitely not polished and looks thrown together. Motorola should send a nice letter to HTC to ask them if they can license sense. This will resolve 2 issues: 1.) a more consistent interface which leads to benefit 2: less people whining about Android fragmentation (it's really not fragmentation, there are just a bunch of whiney babies out there who should be carrying iphones cause they need a smartphone with training wheels).

Or option number 3.....Google buys HTC and integrates all future os updates with Sense included

From what I understand, the Blur iteration on the DX is not as comprehensive as what it is on the original Droid. In other words, it's a bit more passive and more fluid.

However, I'd jump on the LauncherPro bandwagon because it does everything a UI should do and it does it well! But right now, I really love the native Moto calendar, notes, and weather widgets. The fact that I can resize all of them on the home screen provides me with critical information from the onset without compromising too much space. LP for some reason disables this and the Moto widgets are stuck at a single size. Patiently waiting for an update!

I just hate how all my facebook contacts as well as my myspace and people following me on twitter are now all in my phone(no matter if i want them or not)

But i do appreciate the integration it does and does well for the most part

Sense is prettier, no lie about it
However Sense to me is dated & limited at the same time

I like how blur has greatly evolved from it's cliq days

My only complaints about blur is its not very fluid while changing screens and every so often my app drawer would get really laggy until i scrolled all the through it. Hopefully 2.2 fixes those two things. I'd much rather use stock vs LP.

Hmm. I like Blur. I don't have an response issues going from screen to screen. And the lock is fast too. Sense is pretty though.

Linking contacts can sometimes be annoying between FB and GMail contacts. For the most part it works alright, but for example I have a <3 before my fiancee's name in my GMail contacts but when I link her FB profile to the GMail one it changes to her full name :/ Annoying but no deal breaker. Other than that I like Blur.

I don't see any problems with, aside from the occasional lag. Beautiful Widgets is the only change I made to it. I've never used sense though.

I don't mind it at all. I had an Eris previously and am actually happy to be using a phone without Sense. It got boring after a while (to me, at least).

I was just thinking this myself. I am not messing with the phone too much until after the OTA, then all bets are off.

I do like blur, but the idea of being able to put more widgets/icons on my phone, and more customization, is appealing to me, so I was going to try LP after the update. I am new to smartphones but am eager to play around.

BTW, this phone is incredible and I still find myself playing and learning more about it everyday!

After trying and reviewing both Launcher Pro and ADW Launcher, I've basically come to a similar conclusion as many of you above. I find the stock UI to be more than adequate. I don't experience the occasional home button lag that I had with the other two launchers, and although I could do without the Home/Dots row, I find that having the dialer, contacts, and app drawer on the bottom is what I would want in any customizable dock anyway. Thus, I'll wait and see what Froyo brings and revisit 3rd party launchers after that.

Shipping stock would be cool. I'd probably end up installing something like Blur or Sense just because I like them, but having the option would definitely be a perk.

I thought that too about the facebook contacts. They were all in mine but I got rid of them. I just went to my accounts and deleted my facebook account. So All the facebook friends deleted off my conacts too. I went and DL the Facebook App for Android and its works perfect without syncing all my Friends into my contacts. And the Facebook widget still works. If any of that helps!

Not sure I agree with you on this. I had Sense on an Eris and it just about killed it. It was obvious that the hardware wasn't equipped to handle the OS. LauncherPro ran fine on it though. I got no lag with Sense on the Incredible. But since I don't like Sense, I ran LauncherPro on it soon after I got it and it ran very smoothly. I have a feeling that the lag on homescreens comes more from the widgets people put on them rather than the UI - at least for the Incredible and the Droid X.

OR are you trying to say you had lag on Inc when you had bunch of widgets?
I am trying to figure out (as I have not used Inc extensively) whether it was slower with Sense or not.

Interesting thing is that I am currently running Launcher Pro yet still experience some lag. I know that Blur Social Networking is running in the background but know sure if it is using up any resource as we are knot sure if it's in a sleep mode when no blur widget is running.
I just want to be able to remove all blur bloatware and use my own widgets. I hate how smartphone became all about social networking.
