Bluetooth headset question

I'm planning to get a bluetooth headset for use with my Eris. I don't really have any experience with a headset so I have a question about how it works:

I would like to leave the headset powered on and when I receive a call, either answer it from the headset or from the Eris depending on where I am/what I'm doing etc. Is this possible? Or if the headset is on will I always have to answer the call from there? I believe that I've heard that this is the way headsets work but I was hoping that I might be able to choose my answer "mode". Thanks.

Im certainly no expert on bluetooth....... but heres how mine operates...

phone rings I press the button on bluetooth and call goes to the earpiece

phone rings I press button on the phone and call goes to phone........ I can then either hold the phone to my ear or go ahead and press the button on the bluetooth and the call transfers to the earpiece

I have this one...

Motorola H17 Bluetooth Headset - Overview - Motorola USA

.. and I frigging LOVE it!! When the littel mic is folded. it is off, flip it out, it is on. The best part is, it takes 10-15 minutes to fully charge and you get about 3 solid hours of talk time.

It will also read your text messages to you. It is pretty killer. But thats just my opinion...

Excuse me for jumping in...
Are you saying you have a bluetooth ear piece that allows you to PLACE calls from the ear piece? I have been told that the software on the Eris is not able to do that. I have a Protronics, and while I can answer, and talk, I can not initiate the call from a button on the ear piece.
Please clarify.
It appears, from your link, that it works with the Motorola Droid. But it may not be compatable with the Verizon Eris.
Thanks.

So, a few days ago I did get a BT headset and it seemed to work exactly the way I had hoped. That is, with the headset on, incoming calls could be answered from the headest or from the phone. That's how it seemed to work a couple of days ago for me and at least one person above said that's how it worked for them too.

Anyway, I was trying it again tonight and it no longer seems to work that way. When there's an incoming call, if I answer from the headset or the phone itself, the call always goes to the headset! This is not the way I would like for it to work.

I'm at a loss to explain why I'm seeing this change in behavior. Does anybody have any ideas as to what's going on? Thanks for your help.
