Help weird problem with lock screen

Throughout the day i would wake up my phone and go to unlock it but there would be no bar thing to pull down. I have no idea why this happens there is just a blank screen of my current wallpaper and when i touch it the screen dims. And from there i would have to do a battery pull. This happens about 3 times a day (but on some days a bit more).Why does this happen??

Mine did this once. I just put my finger where it should be and swiped down. It brought up the unlock pattern screen. Never did it again.
