Hello everyone,

This is my first thread (and i have done a search prior to posting) and recently upon finding out that the great app I Music was not in the android market, left me wondering. What else am i missing out on?

What are the best apps you have come across that just arent on the android market. I Music is great and clearly a well known, safe app. So i'm looking for things along the same lines. Safe, trusted apps that just arent in plain sight on the market. Of course it doesnt have to be music or media related.

Just to let everyone know, I'm using the HTC EVO. and love it. Thanks for reading

Nice, very nice. Games def count. Im basically just looking for anything you wouldnt come across on the market. ie apps, widgets, games.

I was looking at swype the day i bought the phone, mainly because i was so used to having the slide out qwerty on my touch pro and i remeber seeing something about that being one of the only features the samsung galaxy has that the evo didnt. after a day of getting used to the touch screen qwerty, i decided i liked it a lot and at times i can actually type faster than a regular slide out qwerty.

Gamesloft makes some awesome stuff. that 3d assasin's creed is just awesome. purely awesome.

good stuff guys. keep it coming and thank you!

As for apps not currently in the market, well you just have to keep up with the boards & blogs to see whats out there. You will notice alot of apps stay in beta for awhile before making it to the market. Oh yeah & you will find a tons of great apps over at XDA that you wont see in the market, that's actually probably the best place to have a look around.
As far as Market alternatives, there are quite a few of those as well, I will post a few links for starters:

SlideME | Android Community and Application Marketplace DL link: http://SlideME.org/sam2.apk

Leaf Open Market DL link: http://www.leaf.co.za/openmarket

AndAppStore : New Releases DL link: AndAppStore : AndAppStore Client

Android Tapp. Android App Reviews, Android Apps, News, Ratings, Interviews and Showcase

Additionally, Android App stores:

AndAppStore : AndAppStore Client

That should be a good enough start to keep you busy for a bit...

I am kind of confused. To get these non market apps does your phone have to be rooted? I have a MyTouch 3G, does anybody know if these apps are compatible with this phone?

Generally no, you don't have to be rooted unless the app specifically says you do. You just download the APK file from wherever and make sure your phone is set to allow non-market installs, then install it with Astro file manager or some app installer.

RJDJ is a good one. You put on your headphones and it plays a soothing song while the mic picks up the surrounding noises and distorts them. It's really trippy! It only has one scene though. The iPhone app has a ton though

Went to the RJDJ website and couldn't find a way to install it on the Android platform...do you have a link to an apk?

Edit: Never mind found it myself here: http://more.rjdj.me/hack/labs/

Right click the download link and make sure you add an .apk to the name of the file.

Thanks for the info. Currently the MyTouch 3G is only on 1.6. I am at work so I cannot check thee sites out. Do these sites show what version of the OS they are compatible with?
