Browser improvements

So I just went to the apple store and played with the I-phone browser for a bit. (Just got a G-phone and going through my usual buyer's remorse...)

I must say, the G-phone browser absolutely pales in comparison. Some of which is not fixable in software. For example:

1. I phone screen is slightly bigger (although same resolution). I've found even this slight size increase makes it much easier to click on links with your finger and it significantly improves readability.

2. Have you guys looked at a side by side picture comparison? It appeared to me like the color, clarity and brightness on the I-phone were much better. (Admittedly, I didn't calibrate the two to the same brightness, but the color on my G1 just seemed off...)

3. Navigating with those crazy + and - keys is a pain. Even using the zoom feature on the G-phone leads to unpredictable results. It never seems to drop down where I want it. Not only that, with the G-phone, using the zoombox thing, your finger is directly over where you want to zoom - blocking your view. With pinching, you are clicking around what you want to zoom into keeping it visible at all times.

4. Scrolling on the Gphone is extremely chunky... A side by side comparison with the IPhone is embarrassing for the Gphone browser.

There are a ton of things about the Gphone I love, which is why I bought one, but the "killer app" is the ability to browse the web and it is so painful to do so on the gphone that I'm considering taking it back... Does anyone know if any of the above areas can be fixed? Can pinching be added? Can scrolling be improved or is that a hardware limitation, not software.

I realize there is nothing to do about screen size, but that combined with the other flaws make the browser unusable after experiencing how smooth browsing is on the Iphone.

this doesn't even belong in the android news forum. theres a G1 forum for that. and he called it a G-Phone and an I-Phone... rollingwaffles. And theres alot of comparisons out there between the two btw, infact I have both of them right in front of me right now since i've been an avid "I-Phone" user for the past year or so.

I'd have to disagree, I have both the iPod touch and the G1 and I actually give the advantage to the G1. I got both devices at the same time and while I do think they are both very good browsers and easy to navigate. I found it a bit of a hassel to pinch out and pinch in multiple time to see a picture. I also think the trackball is a huuuuuge advantage for the G1 with clicking on links. ( on my iPod i have to pinch in multiple times to click on one because I have large fingers.) But anyways thats just my opinion.
