I have proof that the Vibrant can withstand some damage!!!

I have always wondered how scratch resistant and strong the screen really was on my vibrant. I was just too chicken ever to put it to the test. Today, my phone unwillingly went through that test.

I have always rescued pitbulls to save them from the wrong people. I'm on my 3rd one and thought that with my 4th dog, I would rescue something different. Her name is Ruca(best Sublime song) and she is a Blue Heeler b.k.a Austrailian Cattle Dog. Smart as all hell and just as mischevious. I've had her since she was 6 wks 3.4 lbs. Ms. Ruca is now 4 months and 18 lbs of pure chewing terror.

Well I was watching a DVR'd episode of this weeks Tosh.O. I kept hearing a crunching type noise under my coffee table but was way too interest in this weeks web redemption that I didn't bother to investigate. After it ended my wife said we had to go to her parents house.

So I start gathering my things while complaining at the same time. I grab my keys, my wallet, my pho.....Hey, where the hells my phone? I tell her to call it so we can find it faster. I hear her ringtone "Waiting for my Ruca" coming from the same exact place where I heard that crunching noise.

My little devil managed to rip apart my gel skin case and was working on seeing what the inside of a Vibrant looked like. There was what looke do be 5 deep scratches that go across the screen from side to side by the earpiece. Some deep gouges in the same area around the monochrome rim that goes around the phone.

I though I was going to have to look at those scratches that were on my screen for the rest of my ownershop. I grabbed some eyeglass cloth and buffed them out. Everything works perfectly fine accept for where the rim is messed up. It cuts into my ear but thats nothing that new gel case from tmobile won't fix.

All an all, if the SAMOLED screen can handle chewing from razor sharp puppy teeth with a couple of grown up teeth thrown in the mix, I'm pretty sure it can handle it when I accidentally put it in the same pocket as my keys. I hope this puts some of your guys' mind at ease.

PS. I took the test even further. Since I don't have a case right now it makes the phone kinda slippery and it fell outta my basketball shorts and right onto the ground screen first when I was getting out of my car at my in-laws house. No Scratches!!!!

Awesome to hear that.

I too can vouch for the durability of it. Didn't have the phone 2 hours and went out on the back porch, which is laid with [uneven] stone, and was talking to TMO Support when all of a sudden.... it slips from my hand (humidity is killer here in Houston) and directly onto the screen. Face down and I thought "great... haven't had it 2 hours and already jacked it up". Well.... not even a scratch on it.

I had the same thing happen to me with the BH2 and it chipped the case and scratched the screen. I'm resting a bit easier knowing this because my phone is the last thing I think of when I'm working on my truck (how my wing passed), mowing the yard, working on roofs, swimming in pools (how my razor passed) etc.

I can't believe it didn't do more damage to your phone though...pups have needles for teeth.

Yep... I love muh Pits. Momma died awhile back and I was absolutely heart broken. Then a coworker had a Bull-Boxer she couldn't care for anymore and I took him in. He looks & acts SOOOO much like her. Pitbulls are def. my favorite breed. If only the jackasses would quit giving them such a bad name and using these good intentioned dogs for ill purposes.

Gotta ask though... did ya whoop is ass for chewin' on it? ;-)

edit for previous post:

I dropped it from about 5'11" onto rocks face down.... not even a scratch. Maybe I should try throwing it next time. ;-)

Nah I didnt beat her cause I didn't catch her but I did let her know that it wasn't hers. I was just writing this to peoples mind at ease when wondering whether or not they should buy a screen protector and how the phone feels "cheap" and "fragile".

I used to watch that video every couple of days to reassure me that I didn't need a screen protector but now I know first hand :D

good to hear there are intelligent dog owners out there. i rescue boxer and box/pitt mixes. fantastic dogs!

on the subject of this forum, this screen is amazing! i think they call it a "gorilla screen". it kind of looks like the poured lacquer that is on the top of some bars. this thread: http://androidforums.com/samsung-vibrant/134002-screen-vibrant.html#post1256812 shows a pretty cool test on the galaxy s screen.

oh my gosh, cutest doggy in the world, I love love love love love love animals, especially dogs to peices.

But going back to your phone, can you please invest in those cheap plastic screen protectors. Yes the vibrant can withstand scratches, but lets not test this out anymore. Go to frys, or t-mobile, pick up a pack of screen protectors, and protect that gorgeus super amoled display :)

i have noticed the durability of the screen as well. what else really amazes me, is it's resistance to finger prints/smudges. after a hard days work, i tend to have oily skin. my behold2, the screen would get fogged up in no time, and i would have to clean it often. however, the vibrant, the screen is crystal clear all the time. samsung put alot of work into this phone. and the screen. i am very impressed!

She's my little girl and yes. I did have screen protector but couldn't stand the feeling of the screen and thought that it dulled it out a bit so I took it off. It feels like sex without a condom, there's a risk but the reward is much better

I applaud you Jree first and most importantly for rescuing dogs and secondly for posting up this great info about the Vibrant.

We too are dog lovers and our "puppy" a 230 lb 18 month old English Mastiff (Kahless The Unforgettable - named after a Klingon) loves to chew. Your post has served as a wonderful reminder for me to keep the Vibrant out of his reach. Not easily done since he is 35" at the shoulders and his tail regularly sweeps my desktop. He's quite the counter surfer too. We have to keep all fruit, vegetables and other attractive items out of his reach. Our other 2 Mastiffs have outgrown these tendencies.

Thanks for the reminder! And again, thanks for rescuing dogs! And I agree with you about the screen protector. Nice analogy BTW.

Good man! Only ignorant morons and backwoods cretins use corporal punishment on their animals. Positive training techniques work much better.

I have a question, which video are you referring to regarding the screen?

To me the phone feels sleek, well built and elegant. I don't understand the "cheap and fragile" descriptions.
