Hey
I've had a lot of success getting my random questions about my phone answered on here before, so I thought I would try again. I love my eris as a mini computer, use it for all my apps and emails and everything and it works great. Unfortunately, when it comes to working as a telephone, it sucks. It takes between five and twenty seconds after I click on a contact to place a call, and then when a call is ended or lost the screen either shows black for a while or says "HTC" and then reboots. This is particularly annoying when I lose a call and just want to call someone back, but I have to wait about 30 seconds before my phone even shows me my home screen again. Once I'm on a call its usually fine, but getting the phone screen to load and place calls is super slow. I'm running Task Panel on it, but I don't have it auto-killing anything that HTC makes or that is related to phone calls. Any help?

Thanks a lot,
Laura

Mine does the same exact thing. I will pull up the call history and tap on who I want to call and sometimes it won't do anything at all, so I tap it again and then after a few seconds it's calling the person TWICE, and if I select someone to call and it doesn't call them after 20 seconds or so I just close it out and go back to home screen and put the phone in sleep mode, and then a minute or two later I see my phone light up and it is trying to call the person that I gave up on two minutes ago. It only started doing this after the last OTA update:thinking:

I just contacted Verizon tonight about this same issue and they were little help to me. They passed me to HTC and all they wanted to do was a factory reset. I have read(in this post) that it does help, and I have done this but two days after the reset it is back to the same problems. I am now on my second phone this month and my third total. I am worried what will happen when my one year warranty is up, what then? No more free replacements! I am going to try to get a different model, the Eris is a good phone and a lot of you have had great luck with it. But I have had nothing but trouble.

We have two Droid Eris' (Eri?). Both have the delay when placing an outgoing call, anywhere from 15 seconds to two minutes. I just spent 40 minutes on the phone with Verizon tech support. Their solution: turn off the data network. To be fair this seems to have helped, it just doesn't seem to be a real solution to the problem. When I explained that my wife's previous phone (a blackberry) did not have this problem I was told that the Eris "does more". The problem is very frustrating. It seems unlikely to me that we just got two bad phones.

I had the same problems, I called up VZW told them this was my 3rd eris and the rep curtiously offered to switch me to a different phone. When I said I'd be fine with a moto droid he said he didn't want me to have to get all new accessories so he got me an Incredible to keep me with HTC. I'm still having them send me new accessories since the Eris ones don't work but I was amazed at how helpful they were.

Two of you I see on here had your Eris replaced with another device by Verizon. Is Eris the problem or do all Android phones have the lag?

I have an eris and the lag is HORRIBLE. I need a solution, and I'm too chicken to root. I've done the hard reset twice for other reasons, but the lag always comes back.

If I call VZW, should I insist on a different device?

OMG. i have the exact same thing. i like the phone but it really really sucks making and receiving calls. the lag time is incredible. every time i pull up a contact and just press the name, nothing happens. i press again, nothing happens. then i decide to dial the number and WHILE i am on the call, the phone starts dialing that number. answering the phone is no bargain either. i am definitely not technical enough to do the root thing. way too scary for me. so i guess i am stuck with this for 11 more months. the darn thing is so frustrating to use as a telephone. will verizon replace if i am passed one year?

As the Brain Trust has already said - You should Root your phone
It will Fix Everything

Root can overcome Hardware limitations and Malfunctioning hardware.

If done Correctly Root can even Install what seems like an entire new "phone" into your phone, which will make any past problems you have had a distant memory. Root has even been known to self Fix all the problems Rooting creates! Just ask the developer who is on version 36 and counting of his - Root "fixes Everything" ROM

And it if doesn't - Don't worry, Root it anyway - It fixes everything - Seriously

I'm rooted and it still does it...VERY infrequently, but does it. The other thing that causes lag other than 3g usage is app usage. Eris multitasking might cause it too.
