Droid X or EVO?

I'm looking at getting a DX, but also considering the EVO. Are there any advantages of the EVO over the DX? I don't care about the front facing camera and don't live in a 4G area. One thing that is swaying me to the DX is it seems the camera is better for both still and video on the Droid. Any other things to consider when making a choice?
Im coming from an iphone4.

Thanks

Depends on which Carrier you are looking at. Evo is on Sprint and Droid X is on Verizon.

I couldn't decide between the two either initially so I just got both of them to see which one I preferred in actual use. The thing that stood out most for me was the difference in the display. Compared to the DX, Evo's display looks really washed out.

Here's a comparison of the displays that does a decent job of showing the difference, although the difference is even greater in person...at least to my eyes.

Evo vs DX display

One thing about camera, DX does take pictures that are more true to life but the Evo takes pics a little faster.

Hardware spec-wise, minus the 4G (which isn't widely deployed) and the front facing camera, the Droid X is superior to the EVO. EVO fans who state otherwise are really blinded by their fanboyism.

The processor in the Droid X is much better, the screen is better, benchmarks for both 2D/3D graphics and calculations show the Droid X to be much much faster.

That Snapdragon processor is pretty outdated now.

Oh and let's not forget the locked @ 30fps, though can be removed with a custom ROM but still can't reach 60fps, problem.

If you're into stock UIs, you have the Sense vs. Motoblur argument, but I don't like either and throw Launcher Pro onto the phone.

I'd say go with the Droid X, the better hardware and network are reason enough, in my opinion.

My only gripe with the Droid X is honestly it's camera button. :/ You really have to press it... hard!

You came off a little fanboyish here too. What if the guy wants to root? He can't get custom ROMs on the X. The Evo is nice and I had a chance to play with my friends. I really liked it but would choose the X because it seems better built and I like the dedicated camera button.

Bottom line is try them both and see what fits you.

They come with different UI overlay on top of 2.1. Moto uses a light version of their Motoblur and HTC uses their Sense UI.

You may want to play with both to see which you like better.

That is unless you plan on putting a custom UI (LauncherPro FTW!) on top of your phone.

Both great phones and if the service is comparable in your area you probably can't go wrong with either. GL!

I had an EVO for 29 days and I then decided to take it back and stay with Verizon and get a Droid X. I only miss one thing from the EVO, the Friend Stream widget. Other than that, the Droid X has it beat, IMO. The display is night and day, 65k vs 16m is not even close. The camera, IMO, is a lot better. I just like the feel of the phone better also, I know the weights are close to the same, but the X feels better in my hand.

Also, the screen/system seems so much more responsive. I always had a little lag with my EVO. Battery life, hands down, goes to Droid X. The EVO sucked the battery down. Like last night, my droid stayed at 60%, no battery loss. On a nightly basis, my evo would lose around 10%.

My vote would be for the DX, but I would try both phones out if I had the chance. GL.

Since both carriers are good in your area, I agree with what phobic said, try out both and see which one U like better...

I also agree with sodaboy581. There is a hardware advantage with the X that says it will have better battery life than the EVO.

There is a hardware advantage that will more than likely give the X better reception.

Speaker goes to the EVO., display I would give to the X, UI I would to the EVO, call quality u could give to the X for the noise cancellation mic(s).

Video recording audio goes to the X with the 3 mics that u can adjust for the type of audio u want the clip to have.

The X is longer but its thinner. I havent had any issues using it, holding it or putting it in my pockets. The EVO is thicker, I dont know by how much tho..

The EVO does have a kickstand for using the phone in landscape mode...lol Hey, its a pro for the EVO.

But ask this question in the EVO form and u might get the opposite responses....lol

The Evo advantage of being able to root and change the bootloader is pretty significant. My buddy says he would dump his wife and marry froyo, that's how awesome it is.

But I do love my X and we should be getting 2.2 here very soon. I think at this point, since it is on backorder everywhere, I would wait to see how the X does with 2.2. If it is ho-hum, I would go for the Evo and customize the shit out of it.

Edit: Just like to add I agree with many of the above posts, the build quality of the X is amazing, I love the metal body, the amazing screen, pretty much everything about it.

Edit 2: Don't forget if your looking at these two you should also check out the Samsung Galaxy S which is supposed to have an even more advanced CPU/GPU combo than the X and Evo.

You can root the Droid X, but yeah you can't run a custom ROM on it.

Also, the Galaxy S's CPU is slower than the Droid X's, but it's GPU is faster.

If you're not playing too many 3D games, the Droid X is still better. But the Droid X's GPU isn't a slouch either.

See, the only reason I dont mention root, custom ROMs as an advantage or disadvantage when comparing phones is cuz everyone doesnt root, run custom ROMs. One doesnt have to root and run custom ROMs to use the phone. If someone does those things then yea, thats a con for the X. Yea, I know the X is rooted, but still no custom ROMs.

Its the same reason I dont like comparing a stock phone to one thats rooted and running a custom ROM. Its comparing apples to oranges.

Type in "droid x vs evo" on youtube. I had the same question as you. Technobuffalo had a comparison that made me decide on th DX. The pic/video quality, sound of the video/phone quality, reception/coverage, are all better on the Droid X. The only thing better on the evo is the front facing camera. Better for self portraits. In order to video chat, you have to use wifi, and the other person must also have the same video chat (Qikvid).

Interesting. I have both and my EVO is much faster than my DX. Perhaps I should have Verizon look at it. Example: when I turn on the screen and slide to unlock takes almost 2 seconds and you see the bar freeze on screen. Not sure if others do that, but the EVO doesn't.

OP - def. get hands on and spend all the time you need in each store to really feel them out.

Dump her for Froyo?! I'd dump mine for a sandwich:D

I had both. I much prefer the Droid X.

Me too. The biggest gripe for me was Sprint, but regarding the phones themselves, I still prefer the X.

My thoughts on the 2 -

X feels thinner and lighter in the hand
X is faster
X keyboard is better
X's camera and video is better
I like the camera button
I like Sense UI better, but I like LP even more.
I like the hard buttons on the X

With that said, my wife prefers the EVO. So she bought the EVO and I have the X. She especially doesn't like the hard buttons on the X. So like the others suggested try both phones and see which you like. They are both very good, carriers aside.

To be honest, I would suggest the Samsung Galaxy line over the EVO. Some will disagree and say that Samsung is not good at supporting their devices, but when launching a new line on all major carriers, they will not have a choice but to support them.

I was so close to getting a Vibrant with Tmobile, but their prices are so high, even with my 15% discount + I have never had their service in my area and could not find a friend who had them.

The phones are so sweet. The screen is so vivid, the camera, even without a flash, takes sick photos. And personally, I like the TouchWiz UI. Super light weight, 16gb internal memory + micro sd slot.

Just another option to check out.
