help with apps !!!

Morning guys,

I need a liitle help,

My batt was doing really well, would easily last the day with running bluetooth and gps,
iv been downloading a few apps and now hav noticed a bit of a drain on my batt, can anyone help me find out wot it is draining the life out of my phone,

Go to the market and download these two things if you don't already have them:

- Advanced Task Killer
- Juice Defender

Both of the free versions are fine and will almost double your battery life . Use the ATK widget on your home screen to one-tap cancel all running apps and make sure you add Juice Defender to its ignore list.

As an extension to this, you may wish to download ASTRO and use that to cancel processes such as Face Recognition, but personally I haven't found this to make a huge difference.

You can check the menu, setup, about the phone and you shold see somethink about battery use. I'm translating this from my Norwegian phone so it may not be correct.

ok im getting these resualts

Cell standby = 45%
phone idle = 41%
Android system = 8%
Display = 6%

does this mean my phone isnt sleeping ?

if so Can i find out wot is stopped it from sleeping

OK this might sound stupid but...

Remove the apps you have installed since you noticed the excessive battery usage. Then add them one at a time over a few days to find out for sure what app is draining the battery.

Task killers to me are pointless as Android will simply reactivate them and the task killer will be using more battery, juice defender kills the data stemming when the screen is off.

If you want to stop certain apps from working then use start up auditor as it is the only thing that will kill an app and stop it restarting.

Android may reactivate some apps (like Moxier), but if you've been playing games and they haven't shut down properly, then a task killer will work - Android will not reactivate the games by itself!

It will do the same with the game as moxier, it will reactivate it and keep it parked until its sure you won't use it and then it will load other apps it thinks you might use and park them.

If that's the case, why doesn't it activate several games I've got loaded on my phone that I use a lot?

Also, my task killer widget shows the amount of free memory. Surely if the phone does keep reactivating the games I've been playing, the next time I use the phone, the amount of free memory will be reduced from when I turned the phone off? But this doesn't happen.

I had a game I played this morning which was showing as still being in memory. I used the task killer to kill it and it hasn't reappeared since. I haven't used the phone for anything else, so surely if what you say is true, the phone would have reloaded it in case I wanted to play it again?

Finally, I play Home Run Battle 3D a lot and, unless there's plenty of free memory, the game will not load. I have to use the task killer to free up the memory. If Android is 'intelligent', why doesn't it determine I want to play the game when I load it and automatically unload stuff I'm not using?

So I'm sorry, but I've seen nothing on my phone which would indicate your point. Maybe it's just the way my phone is set up???

No idea mate but I have sudoku sitting in the back ground that I have not played since my last root so technically this phone haas not even played the game yet. I'm always on robo defense yet even though I only played it an hour ago its not showing up at all in the processes that are running so your explination is as good as minne.

So as I don't use any type of task killers why is sudoku there yet robo defense is not?

My last post was what I have read about Android and how it works and why task killers can be a waist of time as the OS will just bring the killed apps back.

I too have read that Android is meant to be smart with the way it handles the apps (perhaps it was the same article that you read!) although in reality I've yet to see this working!

So I think it's fair to say that no one knows for sure and I guess that we all have to find what works best for us, which may not be what's best for someone else!
