Root Why Upgrade To Stock Froyo If You Are Already Rooted?

See lots of people asking how to go back to stock so they can get the official froyo rom.

Why exactly..?


Don't do it.

- you may never be able to root again
- stock froyo apps2sd is very bad comparedto rooted a2sd+
- rooted roms based on the stock froyo rom will be faster and more stable than stock

No way am i going back to being not rooted, after all the hassle i went through to get here!! like lekky says, give it till next weekend and we rooters should be running the official rooted desire ROM. I cant wait.

Absolutely no wish to go back to stock for me either. Apps2SD+ alone is enough for me to stick with custom roms, the other stuff is just an added bonus.

Oh, and MoDaCo Kitchen roms mean I can have whatever I want and not have to take all the standard included junk that I never use, like twitter, and stocks, and all that other rubbish.

Lol. personally i think we definitely crossed to the better side.
Also a very good reason to stay rooted will be version 3.0 gingerbread, as our phones are capable of running it we can jump in quicker.

Can someone break this down for me a bit more please? Does this mean you can have a truly 'custom' ROM with some of the unnecessary and unwanted junk removed?

If so, anyone got further info and links?

You can also sign up to MoDaCo and use the kitchen there:

I use WinRAR to remove the apps i don't want from a ROM (but I'm not certain how good this is compared to the methods above, certainly easier but maybe there's techy reasons why you should do the ROM changes in kitchens like those linked above).

Lekky is perfectly right, i dont understand why anyone would have the need to if they have 2.2 which is rooted.

Plus, leedroid is coming out with an official rooted 2.2 tonight so it will be good to see what will happen

My thoughts precisely. What is the actual benefit of Sense over current 2.2 ROMs? A few widgets perhaps but even here LauncherPro now has People and Bookmark widgets. I'm still to hear a good argument as to why it is worth changing from a custom 2.2 ROM to the official HTC one.

Having tried all the alternative ROMS with the different loaders I always come back to installing a Sense ROM, they just seem smoother than Launcher/ADW, something feels right about them

Really? apart from me slightly missing some of the widgets there is no contest. Sense is slower and doesn't look as good to me.

I find the opposite, Launcher Pro which I like using due to the custom icons with no text but it just seems less flashy and smooth compared to Sense. I guess it's just down to preference, unless there's some sort of test on the speed side of things???

I will say I'm using a custom Sense ROM, which is much quicker than the stock Sense, it's also has a transparent launcher which helps the look for me.

I find that LauncherPro is much smoother than Sense, but then I spent a while mucking about with the settings. I guess Sense is best out of the box, while front ends like LauncherPro need a load of mucking about with to get to their best. I'm surprised there isn't a "Desire optimal settings" selection (and ones for other popular handsets), but I guess things like Homescreen and Dock counts are the real drivers.

It would be interesting to know if there's been any tests of the speed difference of the launchers.

The phone was built by HTC so you'd assume Sense would be optimized for performance and looks, where as using an alternative launcher on top of Sense would effect the phones performance.

Using a ROM that was built without Sense (i.e. Stock Froyo like OpenDesire) would be the real way to compare against Sense.

There are only so many problems being posted because people come onto forums for help. People who have the update and have no issues don't bother posting on forums unless they are already regulars, as a general rule.

I've unrooted for the time being. It's easier to get updates OTA and I'm lazy.

I'll probably end up doing a re-root with a custom (sense) ROM mind you.
