Root wifi tethering app

There is quite a few out there. What is best? I.e. do they all require something installed on the PC to make it work like easy tether and using USB or can someone just search and add connection and surf internet?

I think with all the WiFi tethering apps there is nothing you need to install on your computer. I installed "Wireless Tether" it works easily. Activate the App, go to your wireless network setting on your pc and connect to the phone.

Thanks, tried Wireless tether and the octopus one. I'll stick with Wireless due to BT tether.

I tried out Barnacle Wifi Tether. Super easy to set up. All you need to input is the WEP encryption. I tried it with my iPod Touch and Toshiba laptop.

I bought tether Wifi, wish I hadn't. I just tried barnacle and I like it better and it is free.

Barnacle, works well with the Ipad or Ipod, seems the others don't play nice with apple

Why won't my dinc find my droid x's wifi network? I've tried barnacle and wireless tether for root users.

Google's Wireless Tether won't even work for me. It shows that it's running just fine, but I can't detect the SSID anywhere to connect to.

Barnacle on the other hand worked without a hitch.

Google and Barnacle both work flawlessly an my DX and give fast connect and fast internet on my WinXP laptop. Went with Google's Wireless tether due to BT tether although I cannot see ever needing it.

This is my first android phone. I stood in line like a jackass back on november 21,2008 to get that POS BB storm. "Upgraded" to the tour last year, and ever since i bought an ipod touch after xmas, ive realized what a joke BB's web browser is. I was shopping for some kind of 3g tethering device that was the size of another cell phone just so i could use Verizon's 3g to provide wifi for the ipod. THEN THE DROID X came...now i only use the ipod for music, just successfully rooted and tethered with Barnacle. Android, I see the potential for a long friendship here.

I removed a bunch of bloatware, and not sure how custom ROMs will benefit me when/if they become available.

Just rooted my phone... first time I ever did. D/l several root apps. One was tether and I'm on it now. I coulda used it last October on vacay, instead I paid vz through the wazzooo for a mobile internet number, which I returned a couple of weeks later.

This X is my first experience with the android. I successfully rooted mine too! The sweet thing is, im leaving for vacation next thursday for 10 days, now i get to have my wireless tether where ever i go. Im pretty excited.

Can't you just use the native wifi tethering 3G hot spot capabilities with Froyo, once rooted?

The only way to use the built in app, rooted or not, is to pay verizon. Or you can download a third party app and get it for free if rooted.

Are any of these versions compatible with the Droid 2 in Infrastructure Mode so the signal isn't seen as Ad Hoc?

Does anyone know how many devices can be tethered wirelessly to the phone at the same time? And has anyone heard of a user having a problem with their carrier because of using this?
