DETROIT MI!
Although minor, together, these things are starting to irk me.

1. no way to turn off increasing ringtone. Often I cant get to the phone in time because I didnt hear it till it was too late.

2. Phone auto sleeps during calls. Whats the point in the proximity sensor if the phone goes to sleep and you have to hit unlock to hang up. irritating

3. Takes about 3 seconds to come back on from sleep. When i want to look at what time it is, I pull it out hit unlock, and it takes about 2 seconds. Should be instant. (this one isnt such a big deal-just sayin...)

4. Under google contacts, you cant sync groups or set custom ringtones. I know theres apps like group ui that do it, but it should have been standard like it is on other phones.

5. Phone gets really warm. Especially after using gps, I find it too hot to put in my pocket comfortably

6. Cant delete all contacts at once! I added all contacts to "phone" then decided to just use "google", now I cant delete the phone ones unless I do it individually. so now all my contacts have extra links, its just plain sloppy. Again, I know theres an app to do it, but come on. HTC phones allow it.

7. when on a phone call, there should be a button to look at the contact page for the person you are talking to. this is common on other phones, just makes sense. i know you can hit home/contacts, its just an annoyance.

8. GPS

9. screen sensitivity. I often accidentally press something, when I didnt even touch the screen just hovered closely above it.

10. Stock music player is good, but lacks the option to choose what specific folder you want for music files. Consequently, I have all kinds of audio files from games labeled "raw" in my list. To remedy, I've been using mixzing, but it's just not as attractive looking as stock player in my opinion. "3" is nice looking, but again, cant choose folders.

11. Blueish tint of whites. The phones screen is very nice loooking, but there is a blueish tint of white, especially noticeable on web pages such as this one.

12. The HTC weather/clock widget is just plain cool. I really wish this phone had it. I really wish I had never bought the Aria first to see how slick that little phone is. Samsung should go study it, maybe they would learn a thing or two.

Dont get me wrong, I love this phone. Its by far the best phone I've ever had.

I just felt like venting my frustration.

Please dont flame me.

I don't have some of the problems you mention. My phone doesn't require unlock after a call, nor do i have a 2 second delay from wake. That coupled with your mass delete preference and I would recommend a system reset. You will lose some things, but it is a fast way to get your contacts straight and may fix your other issues.

As for the ringtone sound, groups and some other issues - yeah I agree.

First day liked the phone, these last 2 have me thinking of returning it. Putting music and video is becoming a P.I.T.A. Well actually music, because video is a no go so far. Somewhere I heard android based phones were easy or easier to use, I know now thats not true, even getting my pc to see this phone turned into a project. I know the iFlaw has its problems, but damn all you have to do with that one is plug it in no settings or mounting crap. And my songs and movies would be on by now, just click and drag, no difficult converting or code changing or installing and uninstalling programs till you find the one that works. So far only this screen seems worth it...

I have had no problems putting music on. I have however had some difficulty getting videos to work well. I either get aspect wrong, or no audio, or in the case of my Avatar video, it has a slight stutter at times. I just wish there was a simple program that would take any video and auto-convert it to the perfect size/resolution for this phone.

I've been using PSP Video 9 for a few years - yeah, it was designed originally for the PSP, but it's FANTASTIC! you can set kbps, res, etc... What the PSP can play, the Cappy can play, except we can do a higher res on the Cappy than the PSP's.

I just basically mounted the phone, dropped 6GB of music, 3-4GB of videos, and everything worked off the bat...

I couldn't agree with your assesment more. My opinion is that this is an ok handhelp computer but a lousy telephone. Here's why:

There is no dedicated telephone button. If I'm in middle of doing something I need to go all the way out to the home screen, select telephone, and dial.
The contact search when dialing a number does not work well, as it doesnt search the contacts correctly.
The in call functionality is limited. No easy way to record call, add contact to phone book, etc.
The sleeping of the phone in middle of a call is annoying. When I am in the car on bluetooth there is no reason the phone should sleep.
The keypad is off during a call. If I need to call an extension, I need to wakeup the phone, push keypad, and then dial the extension.
The sound quality is not very good.
Limited ringtone options.
Limited answer the call options. The swype to answer is annoying.
The end call also takes about 5 seconds before the phone is back to be used.

Why does this phone sound so crappy. I am leaving my verizon family plan and getting an individual plan and had the option to get on any plan I want and chose this phone(including staying on verizon with the droid inc.. My phone is getting in tuesday but now I'm just praying that at least the gps works decently on it.

Forget it not having a ffc, flash, or an led notification light. The gps and software issues seem bad enough.

As to the telephone button, and homing back out, if you just hit the HOME button, no matter WHAT you're in, you're at the home screen, and just hit the Phone icon in the dockbar.

Sleeping on a call is just the proximity sensor - unless somethign has been configured, mine NEVER locks while ON a call. Screen blackens, but that is normal, so your face won't touch a button.

I've had no issues with call quality personally, ringtones is not my thing, andwer to call, also I personally don't care - note I'm not saying these are unimportant in general, but are unimportant to ME.

As to keypad off during a call, by default it is, and I've used it, once you click the keypad button, the keypad is there for me, even after proximity shuts screen off and I pull it away and turns it back on.

So when you are on a call and you take the phone away from your face the screen just turns back on, without needing to be unlocked, ready to use the keypad or hang up?

Yep - just tried it to verify, one of those bank time-and-temperature recordings numbers. And I DO have a screen lock set up (just the standard swipe). Even my previous Backflip did that. Never had one actually LOCK the phone while on a call - I can't even IMAGINE how that would pi$$ me off! Maybe there's something wrong with your proximity sensor, or it's blocked in some way or something?

Hmmm...
The bluetooth I can try in the morning on the way to work, and report back.
I have a 2009 Cobalt SS, so it has the factory OnStar+BlueTooth setup, and I already have it paired.

I'll let you folks know tomorrow midday.

In MY case, though, I can voice-command dial with the car, so it wouldn't affect me TOO much. I can use either my car's contacts list, like "Call Tom Mobile" or literally say "Dial Six-One-One," and in either case it would dial. A bluetooth headset, however, would be annoying if the screen locks during a BT call...

Haven't yet gotten into listening to music/podcasts yet but I've been trying to use the stock video player and noticed the same thing: it doesn't respect folders. I don't want all my videos shown in one flat list... I have them organized in folders and want the player to respect that and let me choose them that way.

And I don't want to have to pay for another player just to get this feature.

Disheartening to hear that the audio player is the same way. What a drag...

Tried the Cappy on BT on the way home, and yeah, that sh!t would get annoying QUICKLY! As soon as the 30sec timer expired, it locked, even while ON the cool, so to enter DTMF numbers, you'd have to unlock it first.

I wonder if that's just an Android thing, or Samsung specific.
Can't remember on my flip.

Anyone got another Android phone that can test?

There's a free music player that's folder-based.
Forgot the name, though, but I remember seeing it, and downloading it on my wife's captivate (before returning it for her current i4).

1. im kind of mad i cant use my old text message ringtone that i have saved on my sd card... on this phone i guess you can only have message tones that are pre-loaded, tell me if im wrong, please!

2. 80 percent of the time i hit any of the bottom buttons it acts like i hit that stupid search button, and pulls up the search screen instead of going back or going home like i wanted it to do. is this happening to anyone else?

3. cant set different wallpapers for all the different home screens... once you set it thats what you get for all the screens! kinda sucky!

4. the alarm ringtones are very quiet, hows this going to wake me up? i also think half the time the alarm never goes off at all, anyone else?

5. the lock button is in a place that might be good for a left-handed person but for me its in a very bad place, should have been wherie it was on my old samsung eternity!-loved that phone!

this is the best, or most complicated phone ive ever owned! almost to much phone for me!

Shouldn't we add the so-called soft keys to the list of complains?

They are often not responsive, they light up AFTER you press one of them (which is downright stupid), and search is often invoked no matter what you press.

I personally wish they were physical buttons. Non-physical keys there are a horrible idea.

Although minor, together, these things are starting to irk me.

1. no way to turn off increasing ringtone. Often I cant get to the phone in time because I didnt hear it till it was too late.
Unfortuntately a stock feature of the phone. To get around this you need to add a few seconds of of silence at the beginning of your ringtones so that they become full volume by the time you hear it. Another option is to install Rings Extended from the market and use your whole song as the ringtone, so that you're not necessarily limited to 30secs of ringtone.

2. Phone auto sleeps during calls. Whats the point in the proximity sensor if the phone goes to sleep and you have to hit unlock to hang up. irritating
As another poster has stated, the phone goes dark so you don't accidentally hang up on the call with your face/ear. Just press the volume key to turn the display back on if the phone stays dark when you're looking at it.

3. Takes about 3 seconds to come back on from sleep. When i want to look at what time it is, I pull it out hit unlock, and it takes about 2 seconds. Should be instant. (this one isnt such a big deal-just sayin...)
Some app is making this happen. When I press the power key screen comes up quickly. Sometimes the screen redraws from LPP. WidgetLocker comes up right away though. No redraws.

4. Under google contacts, you cant sync groups or set custom ringtones. I know theres apps like group ui that do it, but it should have been standard like it is on other phones.
Agreed. If the phone is supposed to be based off of gmail/google, they should include the grouping function as stock on the phone. But since that's not the case, Contact Group Manager is a nice app to do this for you.

5. Phone gets really warm. Especially after using gps, I find it too hot to put in my pocket comfortably
I use a case and don't notice this. But I have a case. Maybe that dissipates or diffuses the heat or something.

6. Cant delete all contacts at once! I added all contacts to "phone" then decided to just use "google", now I cant delete the phone ones unless I do it individually. so now all my contacts have extra links, its just plain sloppy. Again, I know theres an app to do it, but come on. HTC phones allow it.
Just hide the SIM/PHONE contacts in the settings. No need to delete.

7. when on a phone call, there should be a button to look at the contact page for the person you are talking to. this is common on other phones, just makes sense. i know you can hit home/contacts, its just an annoyance.
I've never had this feature on "other" phones. Sounds like a nice feature, though.

Install and run GPSRestore from the Market. Make sure you're in the car, un-obstructed view of clear sky, and with charger plugged in when you run GPSRestore. If you run on battery only, the program doesn't always get the last parameter (numbers).

9. screen sensitivity. I often accidentally press something, when I didnt even touch the screen just hovered closely above it.
That's what a capacitative screen does. Magnetic energy from your body/fingers activates the buttons, so you don't accidentally press buttons when its in your pocket.

Yeah. But you have so many free and paid options of better programs in the Market. Find one that suits your tastes.

11. Blueish tint of whites. The phones screen is very nice loooking, but there is a blueish tint of white, especially noticeable on web pages such as this one.
Minor issue for me. Didn't even notice that until you pointed it out.

12. The HTC weather/clock widget is just plain cool. I really wish this phone had it. I really wish I had never bought the Aria first to see how slick that little phone is. Samsung should go study it, maybe they would learn a thing or two.

Please dont flame me.

With the flexibility that Android offers, it leaves a lot in the hands of the owner to find and install programs that are to his/her own taste.

The stock programs are basic. You have options to replace them from the Market to customize to your own needs and tastes. A lot of work, but that's why I got an Android and not an iPhone.

The thing about hovering your finger above it happens to alot of phones like this. Its the heat from your fingers.
