A VZW tech just told me Eris was getting froyo tomorrow. I DO NOT BELIEVE HIM. Anyone got a link to where they said Eris would not be getting froyo?

I have the Incredible but he told me the 2.2 update was rolling tomorrow for Eris, Droid, Devour, X and Incredible.

I am not trying to spread false hopes, but if someone has a link, I am going to call VZW back next week when neither my Incredible nor my wife's Eris get the update armed with information.

Here is the article that discusses phones that WILL get Froyo. Eris was left in the uncertain zone. I don't think there has ever been an official announcement that it will NOT get it, but they haven't promised it either.

Android 2.2 Upgrade List: Is Your Phone Getting Froyo? - PCWorld

Thanks NG. I didn't think it had been announced officially. I guess when my wife's phone doesnt get it, I will know for sure.

So Sox!!!!!!

(wow, this feels so familiar!)

While Froyo is nice and all, the Froyo custom ROMs I've tried would seem to indicate Froyo is perhaps a bit laggy on the Eris. In one particular case, the native camera app wouldn't work at all.

That is because they aren't stabilized. If Verizon released it to us Eris users it would be almost-bug free and gone through tons of testing.

from what ive heard they just need the kernel and they get to fix it. i have no idea what the hell that means, but it means it can fix the camera issues.

Strange question: I just left the verizon store in arlington TX where we talked with the manager about the many problems my mom is having with her Eris. He wouldn't offer any help because he INSISTS that she will get an OTA update to 2.2 by Aug 13th.

I've just recently joined verizon (droid x) so I may be out of the droid loop, but I can't find ANY reference to this secret update. He couldn't offer us any proof saying only that he had confidential corporate emails. He simply repeated over and over how it was coming to the eris because 2.1 created so many problems.

I figured I would just post here and get the real scoop from the actual experts. Anyone heard anything about this? Any VZW employees that post here?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

The eris is verizons adopted kid. First it was the hero on sprint, But verizon adopted it and gave it better looking clothes. But come on, every time theres a new pastry or frozen treat verizon is gonna get its own kids them before the adopted one gets any. And in this case, the eris is left out completely.

That is an absolutely brilliant analogy

Eris owners wishing to run 2.2 Froyo on their devices have a couple of ROMs to choose from, if their Eris is rooted.

I realize that's been mentioned, but it deserves to be said again for a few reasons, not the least of which is the fact that Froyo runs rather sluggish on the CPU the Eris is provided with, which begs a bit of an overclock tweak to get the OS up to the responsiveness most root ROMs give to us not rooted.

The developers of both of the Froyo ROMs I've tested are quite proactive with regard to exterminating bugs, the most common of which are camera anomalies and the rather benign annoyances of soft key lights not working and/or the charging indicator light sometimes remaining on with no cable attached, etc.

No deal breakers, plus both ROMs being developed daily. ;)
