Hi everyone,
I got my phone at a Verizon Store a couple of weeks ago and I paid the $ 299.99 and was supposed to send the papers to get the $ 100.00 back.
I started to see all this posts about better deals at Sears, Best Buy, Dell, etc. and decided that it was not fair to get it for such a high price so I decided to go back to the Store to see what they were able to do for me.
My family plan is expiring on March 2010 but when I got the phone two weeks ago, they told me that I could get it with the mail in rebate. Now that I went back they told me that nothing could be done so I returned the whole thing, including cover, car charger, and a couple of other things. I got almost $ 400.00 back.
Now I have to think what to do next. I am upset to the degree that I would like to use a different company instead of Verizon.
It is the warranty the only difference when you get the phone on line or at Best Buy?
What would you do if you where in my shoes? Thanks for the input.

I'm sorry, what's your complaint ?

Mail in the rebate.. and you're down to $200.. When is your NE2 ?

sounds like he went back to verizon and said look, best buy, joe down the road, and somewhere on the internet they are selling the droid for $150, would you price match. They said no. He took it personal and returned everything and now wants to leave verizon because he decided to buy it with the mail in rebate rather than go to a different retailer selling it for less.

I had a screen shot from the VERIZON website showing they offered it for $149.95 for current customers. The Verizon store looked it up and sure enough there it was on their web site. He looks right me and says "If you buy it here it is $299 with a $100 rebate".
So I looked at him and said, "If I buy it online can I get for $149?"
He said yes.
So I walked and bought it online.
This was on the 6th, before anyone else carried it.

(Don't think I was waiting for this phone do you :p )

Best Buy will price match, but Verizon will not. You can't complain about them not doing it, it's their choice and since when do phone companies ever price match? One thing to note, is those prices at Best Buy, Sears and Dell are for NE2 or new customers, not current customer's just using an Annual Upgrade. Sorry, but you have no real reason to be upset with Verizon over this. If you don't have your NE2 or aren't a new customer, you won't get Dell, Sears or Best Buy to be able to sell you a phone under contract for the cheaper prices. That's just how it works. You can cancel your contract and go to them and get those prices, but you'd obviously be paying more anyway.

Did you use your NE2 for that price, or you aren't sure?

Huh? You probably used your NE2 or hers then. Best Buy doesn't honor Annual Upgrades, no one does but Verizon. You should also go back and tell them about sears offering it for $149 and they should give you back $50. :p

No, it was not NE2.. NE2 only applies to the PRIMARY line, and it's not hers..
The $150 that Sears was doing was for NEW customers only, otherwise it was like $180 or $190..

You can however have your NE2 applied by Verizon if you didn't buy it a Verizon store.. (just requires some sweet talking to the VZ customer service agent)

My brother got Best Buy to give him $50 back, and he upgraded his phone with NE2 through them...all he mentioned was Sears is offering it for $150. They didn't even ask him anything or make him prove it. He isn't the only one either, there's been several posts of people doing that.

I'm not sure how you got BB to give your wife an upgrade then, unless a NE2 was used. I was told by BB and by Verizon that Annual Upgrades are only honored through Verizon. Best Buy said they only upgrade current customers via NE2. I tried to go through Wirefly too, and they gave me the same song and dance.

NE2 applies to each individual phone on the plan. Mine ended November 15th. My wifes ends December 26th. Same plan.

To answer your question... I would have kept the Droid and waited for the rebate. You would have lost less money. NOW however, I would just wait until my contract is up. There will be newer and better Android phones coming from HTC soon enough. I completely see your point though. I come unhinged easily too.

I bought my Droid for $100 bucks at Best buy. I printed out the Sears ad for $149.99 and my NE2 $50.00. It came to $105.99 with PA tax. At the time the Droid was released, the Sears deal was &149.00 period, no rebate. It has since changed.

I don't think I could buy a phone this expensive without a contract and insurance. I researched it over and over before I bought it. When I saw BB had no rebate... the Verizon store was never going to get my business.

Good luck.

I too wasn't going to buy at a Verizon store.. Mine was $188 at Walmart with a new 2-year contract. Plus bash Walmart all you want, but their exchange policy is almost no-questions-asked if the phone has problems..at least for a short period of time.

Another thing about Walmart-- My credit sucks, so anywhere else I would have had to pay a deposit on my lines.. at Walmart my deposit was $0 :D
