I seriously can't believe people are excited about a Samsung product. After the bullshit they pulled with the Instinct I will never ever buy a Samsung phone again. As soon as it was released it was like they stopped giving a shit about it and moved on, why do manufactors and Sprint release crap like the Instinct and the Moment for that matter. And get you in a 2 year contract and basically say its your problem now, the only reason im still a Sprint Customer is because I got the original Instinct and I was gonna return it within 30 days, but Sprint promised fixes and support for the Instinct. They promised all kind of apps available for it, never saw any official Samsung apps only some shitty 3rd party ones nothing like the Android Market. I have the HTC EVO now and I would never ever in a million years trust Samsung again. Even if its running Android I say **** Samsung and their shitty phones, I would purchase an Iphone before I got another samsung and I hate Apple products as well, but I can never forget the horror I went through with that shitty Instinct I had for a year +.

These threads get annoying. Yea Samsung support might have sucked in the past (I haven't had problems but I don't live for my phone.) but they really need to get the Galaxy S phones right since so many people will have them that I think they will be fine. Every phone has its problems at the start, lets see how they handle them.

You can't seem to capitalize your "I" in your sentences either. The first word in sentences are also supposed to be capitilized. Big ****ing deal it's a forum I wasn't aware this was grammar class. Another case in point is how come EVO is the only phone in sprint lineup that is getting 2.2 the Moment or Intercept are not getting 2.2 from Samsung? These phones are less than a year old and already they are not giving the latest updates. What makes you think they will not do the same thing with this Epic, when Gingerbread comes out?

Evo is Sprint's flagship device right now...that is until Epic....Samsung has the chance to do right and upgrade or they realize that maybe next time not so much.

Consumets should not put up with this anymore, someone should file class action lawsuits on all the major carriers. If we sign 2 year contracts with a new device we should get software fixes and support for the entire 2 years, it's becoming common practice for carriers and handset makers to abandon devices soon after release. To focus all their attention ontheir next big phone. Or stop with the etfs

Or at least officially unlock the bootloader after the last official update, so anyone who hasn't rooted it yet can join the party and enjoy a better Android distro than they would have gotten from the manufacturer anyway

Samsung already said all Galaxy S phones should be receiving 2.2 at the end of September the latest on their twitter.

Also with that said, Samsung has also invested millions in the Galaxy S line so they definitely wont be releasing it and than dropping support altogether, especially since it is on all 4 major carriers and not just 1 like the moment, behold, or instinct.

Luckily with Sprint you are able to upgrade your phone every year depending on your plan so if you really just want the latest and greatest you can change your phone every year if you please.

I cant believe people are even debating wheter Samsung would drop support right after the phone releases. The moment, behold, and the instinct dont have half as much money put into them as the Galaxy S line.
Plus those phones were released as exclusives to particular carriers which is totally different from now when Samsung is releasing this phone worldwide and on all the big carriers at once.

I am by no means a Samsung fanboy or whatever but its ridiculous how they get bashed for faulty products all the time when HTC is just as bad if not worse. The EVO just launched and Htc has already released an update that bricks their phone, than their is the light leakage and screen lifting issue, as well people complaining about dust under the screen.

Bottom line is no product is perfect. But I fail to see how Samsung is always trashed when I see other phones having tons of problems themselves. In regards to the whole upgrade to 2.2 issue, I have to ask what do people really expect??

The Smartphone market is advancing so fast right now that you cannot realistically expect a 2 year old device to be able to get the newest and best upgrades. Thats bad business, if people could simply upgrade their old devices to the newest upgrades than what would be the point of buying a new phone period??

If the Hero could upgrade to 2.2 flawlessly and run just as smooth as the EVO on 2.2 would people really want to drop their Hero?? Same concept with the Moment. Im sure some of these companies could actually release the upgrade for their phones but would rather not hoping that you would buy the new phone instead.

The Evo is a great product but has its flaws and im sure the Epic will be the same way. Both will be great choices whichever you happen to choose.

i tend to ignore meaningless threads such as this, but to down one manufacturer about updates when htc and sprint just pulled 2.2 for the evo and stated it is postponed indefinitely until further notice shouldnt throw stones. i own samsung products and i have no problems w. them. every product has their glitches so i have no idea why someone must down a product when it isnt even released yet. no one downed the evo UNTIL problems aroused after its release. the evo is a great phone and the epic will be even greater despite it being made by samsung. i will stick to my words until it is released and i can see how it holds up.

just read about that in the evo thread. hopefully this is the official release. i understand htc wants it to be just right and there are a few probs w. camera and certain apps, but the apps has to be reinstalled. i wonder if this ota is different from the one released on friday.

It's funny when I read these posts. I had one of the first Instincts and for what it was I loved it. Also blaming a manufacturer for something that was more of a carrier issue, Sprint loves to embed their crap into the updates and releases (ie. Nascar, NFL, etc.) and they are usually the ones holding back fixes.

Wow, I agree with the OP. I had to return atleast 5 Instinct because of crappy screens. There was never any apps, and this phone was suppose to be the Iphone killer? Smh in disgust. No flash for the crappy camera, slow browser, & gps was a nightmare. I almost left Sprint after 10 years because of the Instinct.

Yea it does why would he trust samsung with this phone if the last one he had was crap. Would you keep buying cars from the same company if each one you had fell apart soon after Purchase? No you would get a different car made by a different company.

Samsung is a good company and they make quality electronics and I trust their brand as far as the home electronics go and they maintain their quality since they invest big in those product line-ups. In the past, samsung was not a big player in mobile phone market, they might have made crappy product, or they might have skimped on their product support, but that was past. Have you heard about their latest ambition? If they have a goal of selling 10 million of these phones, then it means they have decided to play big in the mobile handset market and therefore they will have to do quality improvements in their products and their support, else they wont last very long. If a company made bad product three years ago, then it does not automatically mean they will make bad product today too, especially when they make good products in other areas, which means they can pull it off if they just put enough money and resources behind it, which they are going to do given their ambition and their effort to release the Galaxy S phones on all major carriers in US. Besides I am pretty sure this device will keep getting the attention and love of developer community given its wide spread of carriers. If Samsung wont give us Gingerbread, I am sure dev community will. If even that won't happen, then people on qualified Sprint plans will get another upgrade in one year time to move away to another device.

You had a bad experience with a Samsung phone, and you want to complain about it, it is totally fine. You can wait few months and see other people's experience before getting a Samsung phone, or if you don't want to get another phone from Samsung ever, and this is totally fine too. Nobody here is trying to convince you otherwise, and we, who believe that Galaxy S devices will maintain the honor being amongst the top android devices for few months to come at least, will still get this phone nonetheless. I am not trying to nitpick here, but I hope you do realize this time around things are not the same as they were at the time of Instinct. Phones are not the same, market is not the same, competition is more fierce, galaxy s is being released on multiple carriers and has already grabbed the attention of dev community, samsung wants to play bigger and has already released the source code for available devices. Don't just assume Samsung's attitude towards this phone based on your previous experience from couple of years ago. They are a big corporation, and have bigger goals this time and might just give better support also. I can totally understand your frustration. While I can't guarantee Samsung's continued and exhaustive support, I, and many others here, believe that things will be better this time than they were from the times of Instinct. Cheer up!!

I totally understand someone being apprehensive about a product they have had trouble with in the past. However, coming on this forum to try and boycott a company and get others to join in is silly.

The Instinct was released 3 years ago, they pulled alot of marketing tricks and labeled it "iPhone killer", it wasn't. So what? I kept the instinct for a year, without problems, and with several updates along the way. Sprint/Samsung supported that phone as far as I was concerned. I now have a Moment, everyone cried "Samsung doesn't support their devices!" I got it anyway. Samsung Moment was updated to with CL14, then to 2.1 (nearly a month before HTC Hero got the update). Samsung again supported their device. And here we are yet again, with people coming into a Samsung sub-forum crying "Samsung doesn't support their devices!" Guess what, YES THEY DO!. Maybe it's not an update every week, like some users want but they have supported their devices from what I have had. Hell, even my old Samsung R510 "Wafer" which stopped being produced only a month after I got, was recieving updates months after it was pulled from the line up.

And to top it all off, Samsung makes a quality, solid built device. Unlike HTC with their numerous quality control problems. I tryed an HTC Hero when it came out, a week after I had it, I had visible dust under the screen, plus the "oleophobic coating" they decided to use on it meant it was Ultra prone to scratching. Then there was battery life which was worse than any phone I have ever had. I should have known not to go with HTC, my g/f had a Mytouch 3G, that thing was a POS, quality control problems, slow, terrible screen. /puke. I was almost tempted by the EVO, then the reviews started coming in. Guess what? Still with the damn quality control issues. Screen seperation in the corner, dust under the screen (wow... not surprised) terrible screen quality... etc. You can act like the problems aren't there, but you wouldn't be fooling anyone. We all can read about them.

Funny thing is, even with my history of Shitty HTC quality control, I don't go into HTC forums and make silly posts about how people need to not buy their products, and how crappy their quality control is. How I just can't believe anyone would be wanting to buy an HTC device, especially with the history they have. I would rather people look forward to the device they are hoping will be the one for them. No need to go and bash on the product they are looking forward to getting. Why do that? Does it satsify some inner demon of yours?

Oh and your car company reference... one name comes to mind Hyundai. Used to have some crappy crappy cars. Now look at their line-up.

I could not agree more! When you combine specs and price point, Samsung makes the absolute best televisions you can buy. I currently have a Samsung 61 inch LED DLP set in my living room. It looks so good it is ridiculous! Literally everyone who comes in my home comments on how awesome the picture looks within 10 minutes of being here. Guess what, I bought this set brand new 2 years ago for $1699! I challenge anyone to go out and find ANY 61 inch set for that price. Good Luck.

Samsung is a fantastic company that makes fantastic televisions. Now, with the Galaxy S, they obviously want to expand and be a major player in the cell phone market. What is the best thing about the EPIC 4G? The super AMOLED screen. Samsung is taking what they do best and putting that technology into mobile devices.

Android is android... it is not customized for different manufacturers. The UI is different, but the OS is identical. So, the question of one Android device being better than another comes down to technical specs. The AMOLED screen is the best thing currently available.

I can't wait for this device!!!!! Go buy a white EVO with it's disgusting washed-out screen and piss off!
